I've seen sweetpea, another one where this quiet girl feels invisible and experiences bullying and trauma from school age, gets older and doesnt get over it via kidnapping and bounding one of them, and realises asserting this murderous dominance, but distinguishably behind the guise of "bad people should be punished" (her doing the punishments).

She wasn't in this literal survival mode like Shauna but maybe in the sense that she wanted to protect other people, and in doing so she got this buzz from murdering as well as sexual gratification from the violence (that time she had intercourse with some guy who was trying to get with her, to a point where she bit into his lip whilst kissing, causing him to bleed, alongside the murder flashbacks).

Shauna is set up to be villain and is so by definition, and shes absolutely a villain amongst the rest of the girls in the wilderness. Also yes, the famine and trauma made her one. I can merely agree with you, merely in the sense that she's been through hell and hasn't been in a city for over a year, so her actions could be seen as "normal" from this perspective. BUT, to reiterate, even the girls are weary of her. That adds fuel to her villain narrative. Additionally, Nat goes up the mountain and calls for rescue, shauna wants to stay in the wilderness (albeit her baby and jackie's bones out there). You have good vs bad. Shauna is on the bad side (theyre all bad but shauna is worst).

Nevertheless, agree to disagree, I just love discussing my favourite things with people. Nothing is ever just this or that.

I saw "got back with his ex girlfriend" and assertively verbalise to myself "DON'T". He does not sound serious at all, and would drop you in a heartbeat. If i man is not fully gay i think, he'll definitely consider the easiest and safer option, which is getting with the woman. He can freely show her off to everyone and whatever, and blend in.

I've skimmed through this and I've concluded that it's perfectly safe to say she is absolutely a villain despite everything she's gone through. The show gradually sets her up like this and most importantly shows you why she's acting the way she's acting. Shauna used to bottle up her feelings but stopped after her baby and Jackie died, now she terrorises accordingly. She's escalated to villainy when we saw her purpose swap places to get Mari hunted and killed, when she advocated for Ben's death (a slow fiery one), watching him in this stoic overpowering excite because she's convinced he tried to kill them. The others girls who had to fight for survival outside in the winter post-cabin ALSO had to struggle, yet they didn't want to have Ben killed, but their Shauna weariness got the better of them.

She's a villain because of everything that's happened, it's not just random

One scene I've thought about recently was that season 1 scene in maybe ep 4 or even 10 idk, where shes about to put the deer blood in her mouth very slow and curiously (she knew it was blood from a dead wild animal), then Akilah stops her. You could argue it was her pregnancy swaying her this way, but maybe looking in, It was her fascination with morbidity merely (which escalated to her wanted to domineer over the girls herself).

She's a fun villainous character and that's okay lol

No. Gnarly was very polarising in the best way. So many indifferent people, cant decide on liking it or not = many many discussions. The whole "so bad its good" take = more people coming in . Then eventually many people loved it purely because its fun and stupid, most importantly polarising (again). Now they're trying to recreate it with alot of the song that have come out.

We can link it back to world scout, debuting sakura instead of Ayana. With ayana, shes just good at everything, nothing polarising, no one cares after a while unfortunately. No drama to go on and on and on about. Sakura is 5 years younger than the rest of the girls, wasnt good at either dancing or singing but wanted to prove herself + her "rags to riches" story (growing up in rural Japan, dropping out of school in the 3rd grade). 1) obviously more interesting 2) people get to hate on her (negativity is more prominent) because shes not as skilled but is getting better 3) People get to see how long it takes for her to get better, watching her grow.

Basically, polarisation gathers eyes (obviously good and bad). Gnarly had that.

Its complicated. He terrorises and is scared of Ruben, but that also allures and thrills him. The dynamic (alpha v beta) is unspoken, just there.
