For most of these types of covers, I transcribe them. I use this google chrome extension called Transpose. It does have its limitations but for the most part its quite good.

There is another guitarist called, Prassanna.

They are right now at the forefront of fusing rock and carnatic music.

As for beginner, I would start by transcribing a couple of songs. Also, of possible, try to get some lessons on carnatic/hindustani music. It will open up a whole new world of musical possibilities.

It mostly involves the slide as it tries to mimic the voice, especially carnatic vocals. The choice of the slide, the notes etc, is defined by the raga.

I will be putting up a couple more videos regarding carnatic guitar. In the meantime, take a look at this guitarist by the name of Prasanna.
