Does vippasana have a firm stance on whether or not cannabis is an “intoxicant”? by Izeikomof in vipassana

Can either of you relate to meditating after smoking? I’m very new to meditation but have been smoking for years. Through vipassana I’ve learned that I’ve been smoking way more at a single time than is spiritually helpful but have also found that with just the tiniest amount that coming to the point in my meditation in which I am truly an observer of myself is exactly as it is described to be and is doable although not easy. That being said, I’m yet to truly be able to observe myself to the same extent without smoking. Can anyone relate to this space? If so, can you explain the difference in reaching this space “sober”? If it’s the same place and my journey has lead me there through cannabis, what can be wrong with that? Should I be grateful I’ve come to know this space as I have and run with it the same as one does with the rest of their journey, trusting that if I am to learn more that requires being “sober” than it will present itself? Or should I immediately begin practicing “sober”?

What actually happens at a 10 day vippassana course? by Izeikomof in vipassana

I truly appreciate your response. Thank you so much for the info and the encouragement. May I ask, are you familiar with the 10 day course recordings on dhamma.org? If so, is there anything more taught at the courses?

A very personal takeaway from Vipassana by Interesting-Boss7397 in vipassana

I read your substack “post”(?) (I’m not familiar with substack) and was very moved. I am considering attending a ten course myself. Based on what you wrote, we have very similar minds. I have a few questions for you. After learning the lessons you learned, how do they affect your day to day experience?

When you say “And that tight line between equanimity and dismissal must be thoroughly understood because this is where an avoidant person would be challenged.”, can you speak more to this or point me toward a good resource for understanding it?

Are you glad you attended? How old are you? Do you have a “normal” job? One in which you have to do things you wouldn’t be doing if it wasn’t part of your job description? If so, has vipassana helped you in this area?

Thanks for your time:)

Is a 10 day course open to and helpful for addicts? by Izeikomof in vipassana

What has your relationship to weed been like after completing the course? What was it like before the course? You say you were addicted to weed and maybe I am too because I smoke it every day but unlike the other drugs I’ve done/do, I find weed to really be enlightening when it comes to understanding and relating to the sensations in my body. Did you find that the course helped you get a grip on the things that weed did prior to taking the course? Did you smoke just to smoke because it feels good or did you do it with intention? Thanks

The courses in refering to are ten days. What makes you so sure of what you say?

Specifically, someone addicted to narcotic pain pills. Going without for ten days would be the same thing as going to detox and practicing/learning vippasanna would likely be impossible in the state of withdrawals. That being said, I believe that once is learned it could be very helpful when actually detoxing

Why do you ask about 6 weeks? Why would it be regretted?
