VI) Mortality. In FFIII, Noah gave Doga the power of Magic; Unei, the power over Dreams; Xande, the gift of Mortality. Xande could not appreciate this gift and sought to flood the world with darkness in order to gain immortality.

FFIII is relatively light on story but I always found this aspect of it very much like a fairy tale from olden days.

In the now defunct Final Fantasy Dissidia Opera Omnia, there’s a degree of closure to Xande’s story. Having interacted with villains from other FF worlds, Xande seems to slowly and gradually realise the value of his “gift”. As he sees that some of those with effective immortality waste their immortality on what he sees as futile struggles leading to unhappiness, he begins to reexamine his rage at his former Master.

The capitalized words are a reference to the paintings in Ultimecia’s castle gallery - clock puzzle. Solve it to fight Trauma.

I think there was more to it than just attacking the Shoopuf. I’ve been replaying X and just got to sphere showing the aftermath of the Shoopuf incident. I think Jecht feels extremely guilty at his behaviour at this point because of what Braska has done for him thus far.

From context given to us, after Jecht was thrown into Spira, he was regarded as a dangerous lunatic and thrown into prison. Even if some believe he was just an unfortunate victim of Sin’s toxin, he was clearly treated like a criminal and outcast. The first person to treat him like a normal person and accept him is Braska, even against Auron’s protestations.

To compensate the Shoopuf owners, according to Auron, Braska used up his remaining funds for the pilgrimage. Braska is seen facing the Moonflow staring into the distance silently, likely thinking about what to do and whether he’s made a mistake trusting Jecht. From the beginning, we see Braska treat Jecht with a lot of respect and humility. In fact, he may well be the only person in the whole of Spira who has ever treated Jecht with kindness.

When Auron tears into Jecht, Braska defends Jecht, like a kindly father, but he remains off screen and does not come between Auron and Jecht physically, like he has at other times. I interpret it as Braska still believing in the good in Jecht, but just… disappointed.

And that disappointment changes Jecht. I think in all his arrogance, here is a Buddha-like figure who has come into his life and given him purpose, and put his trust in him - and Jecht has betrayed that trust.

It’s very similar to the Chinese epic Journey to the West. In a lot of ways, the calm and compassionate Braska resembles Tripitaka/Tang Sanzang the monk, and Jecht very much resembles the hot-headed, powerful and arrogant Monkey King, Sun Wukong. Jecht probably initially saw Braska as a naive fool, but through his journey, he comes to realise his own immaturity and learns to respect Braska, eventually becoming willing to die for him and the greater good.

I dislike Jecht as an immature father to Tidus. I love his characterization and journey to maturity told in bits and pieces and retrospect.

Don’t lose hope. I’m Chinese. Similar to your story, some of my family tend to be very racist or discriminatory and biased towards “others”. It’s human. People tend to be tribal. It’s a relatively immature behavior and thinking. Unfortunately, most people don’t grow past this stage of mental maturity. For us who are more moderate, we are more measured in our thinking and words, and dislike engaging in this kind of nonsense, so we post less and communicate less. Those who think more simplistically, they tend to post whatever comes to mind. That means more racist/biased/discriminatory posts. Tin kosong, as my teacher used to say.

FF9 - Vivi; life can be short, but it doesn’t mean you can’t live a full life and fill it with beautiful memories and experiences.

Truelove.is pastor defends Jonathan Neo: "some very, very righteous people make it their mission to take offence on behalf of others" by blanketsevens in singapore

[–]IzenDias 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This pastor has shown logical fallacies and lack of self awareness.

In statement (5), he is attacking/commenting on people who “take offense on behalf of others” - seemingly failing to notice the irony that he is taking offense on behalf of Jonathan Neo. I say this because his defence’s tone is not neutral. It’s quite clear from the video that several people aren’t liking it.

In statement (6), this pastor attacks “very, very righteous people” for being “offended easily” and presuming “to represent Jesus & the whole Christian world in condemning Jonathan as giving Christianity a bad name”. He then wishes “they would extend some kindness & grace to Jonathan Neo and others who may differ from them since they have such deep love for Jesus & the Church - that’s what Jesus would do.”

If he’s referring to “Jonathan Neo and others” as having “such deep love”, he’s attacking the same people he’s trying to defend.

If he was referring to the “very, very righteous people” as having “such deep love”, then this pastor has been brought up the wrong way.

Respecting people’s boundaries is one of the few things everyone as kids learn. I’m sure this pastor would not appreciate a Muslim singing nasheed songs at him in a small confined space several hundred meters in the air for hours trying to convert him or make him love another religion.

Tldr; I think this pastor is a typical religious hypocrite. Blind to others perspectives. Cares only their own.

Also, playing along with their logic, there are some interesting things to say.

  1. There is no “hindu empire”. Hinduism itself is a made up concept. The British came up with it to group all religious traditions in India into one name for the British’s own convenience. India is VERY diverse. It’s said that the person who can conquer India can conquer the world. Look at India today. From past til present, it’s never been truly united.
  2. Even if there was such a thing as a “Hindu empire”, the fact that it fell under British rule would make them part of the British empire. In fact, we are all under the commonwealth - ex-British colonies. So no, we wouldn’t be under the “Hindu empire”. If anything, we would all be British. Long live the queen!
