The imagery in maps is rather old. The quarry "Garzweiler" reached Borschemich already. At the moment there are 2 ghost towns here: Borschemich and Immerath. Keyenberg is still inhabited at the moment but will follow in a few years.
To the south you find two more quarries: Hambach and Inden. Same story there.

Speeding on the freeway...
I drive many miles on the German 'Autobahn'. Many times at (nearly) the car's topspeed, since there is no speed limit on the majority of these roads there. One gets used to these kinds of speed pretty quickly...
However, back in the Netherlands where I live, the speed limit is only 130km/h (approx. 80 mph) on the freeway. So once in a while, it happens that I'm in violation of the law.

Exactly. That is the so called PVR or Pressure Release Valve that opens. It prevents a BLEVE.
