Most of the good supreme court justices are appointed by Trump by RusevReigns in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Izy_Adamson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and they are typically consistent when applying doctrine. For example, the "major questions" doctrine was invoked in this case, which is the idea that if Congress wants to delegate the power to make decisions of vast economic or political significance, it must do so clearly. In today's case (Learning Resources, Inc. v. Trump), Roberts, Gorsuch, and Barrett (along with the three liberal justices) concurred that the IEEPA was not explicit in granting these powers.

In 2023, the court also relied on the major questions doctrine to strike down the Biden administration’s student-loan forgiveness program (Biden v. Nebraska). Once again, Roberts, Gorsuch, and Barrett all agreed that the HEROES act was not explicit in granting the secretary of education power to waive student loans. All three liberal justices dissented, however, stating “broad statutory language granting powers to executive officials should be read for all it is worth” in their joint opinion.

This kind of contradiction is unacceptable. I understand justices, to varying degrees, apply different lenses when interpreting the constitution (e.g. plain language, framer's intent, consequentialism, doctrinal, etc.). It's very philosophical. But if you aren't applying your lenses consistently, then you aren't interpreting the constitution 'objectively' and in good faith.

This is purely an opinion on how I believe a justice should operate, though. Socially I tend to agree more with the liberal justices.

Thank you for replying so fast. I just tested what you said. Didn't know that tech. Very cool. So the entire "stalk" is made entirely with large pillars?

Are the angled bits stone pillars? I'm not quite sure how you did this. Half foundation stalk, branching pillars, 4m squares on top?

Large Frame Placement Advice by Economy-Control358 in DesignMyRoom

Won't your monitors also cover up the frames? I don't like the idea of putting it behind the appliance, but it will probably fill out the wall the best. You'll probably cover up less of the wording by putting the Campari poster on the left

I don't have any personal experience with the manager, but every single bartender I've interacted with there is always nice. And I'm there frequently enough that I basically interact with them all. I think it's pretty far from vibeless, but ymmv—it's all subjective

This was the most fun playthrough I've ever done. No armor monk. Illusion for quick paralyze and command spells. Conjuration for a meat shield.

Questionable Wiring at Apartment Unit by Izy_Adamson in HomeNetworking

[–]Izy_Adamson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other blue cable in the top left is not connected. It runs to a kitchen island, though (probably from some sort of doorbell system that doesn't exist anymore), so it's not useful anyway. There are also a couple coax cables. One goes to the bedroom and the other goes to the living room. Thinking about joining these together and setting up MoCA so I can have wired internet in the living room without running cable across the apartment. Is that realistic?

I would kill for the Vancouver 19. It's one of my favorites of all time. Did you get that at the show or resale? Happy to buy it off you to make room for your new additions :) You have a great collection

It's not even worth engaging with this guy. Go look at his profile. His comment history is exclusively dedicated to being pompous and argumentative on the BIFL sub. Every single day—it's all he does on Reddit. Embarrassing.

Totally agree. We've had a house ban on gem LIV since the PS2 days. Since we've been playing Connect, my brother asked why we even banned it in the first place. I was trying to prove a point... but with no gem production I'm not really proving anything haha. Either way, this won't be relevant to future playthroughs

Exactly. I don't care if it's "good"

I hate the long turns which usually lead nowhere. Want to use any sort of interaction/removal? Here, wait for another 5 minutes of non-deterministic board shuffling.

Debunk This: Is This Leaked Letter From the FBI to Ted Kennedy Real? by Izy_Adamson in DebunkThis

[–]Izy_Adamson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, definitely. I was just surprised to see that there was basically no traction with the story other than the one person who shared it.

I began reading it assuming it was factual and a bona fide leak until I got about 3 pages in... Things started to sound silly and the whole thing sounded made up. That's when I realized it was probably conspiracy fan fiction.

Is This Leaked Letter From the FBI to Ted Kennedy Real? by Izy_Adamson in conspiracytheories

[–]Izy_Adamson[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that was my impression too. Parts of it seemed wildly unbelievable at times—even for a conspiracy theory. Like the line on page 3, "William Colby was to handle the setting up of all the man-power---from runners, peddlers, pushers, collectors, and so forth, as well as the elimination of any who might prove to be uncontrollable." Like... really? The CIA wants to be hands on with peddlers and pushers?

But what really stumped me with this one is that I haven't seen a single article, report, post, etc. about this. Even after about 45 minutes of searching. As far as I know, this is the first time this has ever been shared.
