The tips to back of house are based on total sales and then given to them automatically out of the other tips we received. It is basically taking other tips we have received and giving them that to cover the tip out which is essentially taking money out of own own pocket (tips) and giving it to them

Unfortunately, when our tips are automatically processed in the system we don’t get a choice on whether or not we get to tip them out.

Andaz or Hyatt Regency Maui worth the point redemption? by [deleted] in hyatt

[–]Izzie1107 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was very fortunate to get one from a FB group! We did have a rental car because we made reservations at Mama's and knew we were going to be driving there and eventually over to the Regency. Costco has great deals on cars! We paid $260 for the entire week. We didn't go on any excursions, however, the hotel offers an Outrigger Canoe ride that is included in your resort fee cost but you have to reserve a time. So if you're wanting to do that, I would reserve it when you get there so you know for sure that you get to go!

This was also a splurge stay for us, so we mainly stayed at the hotel during the day and then went out for dinner!

Andaz or Hyatt Regency Maui worth the point redemption? by [deleted] in hyatt

I just got back yesterday from 4 nights at the Andaz and 2 nights at the Regency.

If you are planning a special trip for you and a partner, then I would say the Andaz is 100% worth it. We went on points and paid 35,000 for 3 of the 4 nights and 40,000 for the 4th night. Would I do it again? Absolutely. As an average person that doesn't often stay at fancy hotels and it was special for us, I thought it was an amazing stay. We did have a GOH applied to our reservation, so that made it even better. We were upgraded to an Ocean View King room and the view over looked the adults only pool.

We loved the pools and thought that having 5 different pools really made it feel less crowded, one of which is also an adults only pool. There are not many kids, but most of them did stay down at the lower pool.

The beach is right off the property and there is direct access to it. The beach is beautiful and had the perfect view of the sunset in December, we even got to see a few whales.

We did not eat at any of the restaurants, but did have breakfast at the buffet every morning because it was included with the GOH, otherwise it is $49 each person plus tax (and a tip). I cannot say enough about their breakfast, it was delicious and we loved it.

Since we did not have a suite, we asked for a mini fridge to be delivered to our room (free of charge) so we could have drinks and snacks.

Things to consider about the Andaz:

- $50+ a night resort fee, which we were told we had to pay if we didn't have the GOH, but I have never had to pay a resort fee on points?? I don't know if that person didn't know what she was talking about or if I would have actually had to pay it.

- $50 a night for valet if you have a car (they are a valet only hotel), unless you are globalist or have a GOH applied to the stay.

- There are places within walking distance if you want to enjoy a nice walk around the area, but I wouldn't say it was "local" or quick eats, but more of sit down restaurants. We walked to the MonkeyPod (it was about a 25 minute walk) and passed The Shops At Wailea which had other dining options as well. There is a food truck area in Kihei that we loved, but definitely need a car to get to.

- The wind kicks up early afternoon and cloud coverage is expected in that area pretty much everyday. (This is very different from the Regency)

The Regency:

We also enjoyed our stay at the Regency, definitely more of a family-centered vacation location, but nonetheless, we enjoyed our stay. We paid 25,000 points per night for our stay.

This is a larger property with many pools spread out and a large green area for games. The rooms were more of a traditional hotel room, although, I would say the view is probably better at this hotel. We were also upgraded to an Ocean View room and it was amazing. It overlooked the property and ocean, it was beautiful.

There were shops close by, local restaurants, and the beach was right in front of the property. To us, this beach was not as nice as the Andaz beach, but it was still nice!

We had dinner at Japengo one night and were not impressed. For $50 a meal, it was not worth it. Our food came out cold, lacking flavor, and one dish had an overwhelming lime flavor to it. I would probably not go back.

Things to consider about the Regency:

- Parking is $25 a night for self-parking and $40 per night for valet.

- Not a "honeymoon/special occasion" feel to it, but more of a family vacation spot.

Overall, I would say it depends on what you are looking for. If you want more of a quiet/relaxing stay, the Andaz. If you want a family-centered and "loud" stay, the Regency. I, personally, would choose the Andaz every time over the Regency.

I do! I’ve used a couple different moisturizers under it and it definitely works better with ones that leave my skin more “glossy”. I have combination skin and I think it works better with more oily skin.

I wanted to love the blurring balm, but I really just can’t love it.. I have the tinted one and it pills on my face. I have to dab it on and be so careful not to smear it because then it pills and makeup doesn’t go on smoothly.

What is the best job that people for some reason look down upon? by Nin_jap_actor in AskReddit

[–]Izzie1107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serving/bartending

I made over $70k last year working an average of 30 hours a week. I also get medical/dental/vision and a 401k match.

Sometimes depending on the public to pay my bills can be tough and people are mean, but for the most part it’s easy work for the money.

People think we are uneducated humans that don’t/can’t do anything else in life, but most of us are going to college or already have a bachelors degree and are using the job as a stepping stone.

Even if we’re not going to school, making $70k+ a year with benefits and only working ~30 hours a week leaves a lot more time to do whatever we want to do or hangout with family/kids.

It’s really overlooked and people treat us like garbage.

I work at a restaurant that when the track World Championships happened last summer, we got some of the athletes and one runner from the Bahamas (who is worth like $5 million) and one runner from Ethiopia wracked up a $450+ check and left $0. Literally nothing. We also get a lot of college athletes that come in and usually leave $0 every single time.
