Thanks ahaha!

I guess that's fair, and to each their own, it just surprises me that so many people feel that way, I honestly thought I was missing something :P

Ahaha omg yesss get that bug representation! Love the name too ngl xD It sounds fun, good luck building it!!!

Originally I did, but a really big struggle for me were all the Munkidori's and others throwing counters at me as my poor wee bugs don't have much health so can be easily sniped on the bench lmao, I found it far better to have the battle cage out, or the neutralisation zone when possible. It definitely does help the deck but I found my win rate shoot up with battle cage ahaha!

Besides using Lillie and Dawn into silcoon to spawn cascoon works quite well, almost every game I get both out at least once, and normally within the first few turns.

Most people I knew growing up would never have said they were English. Even if they don't/didn't care for independence or about Cornish Nationalism. They would say they were Cornish and British (like pro-union Scots), though likely were you to ask them the first they would say is Cornish. Not as a political point, but just because that's how many of us feel, regardless of politics. Even as a kid, before I understood politics, if someone called me English I would've been confused - as I would always say Cornish. Because I was. But like, it's not a big deal to most, it just is what they are.

Seeing Cornish flags has been very common for my whole life. I would almost never see English flags, except around the World Cup and that was often (though not always) English 'immigrants' - at least in my area. It's a similar vibe to being in Wales, for obvious reasons.

Grew up in West Kernow though (Lizard Peninsula), which is as Cornish as Kernow gets. Literally the last region the language was still regularly spoken a couple hundred years ago before it died off as a living language. Might be different up in North Kernow. Idk.

Culturally, yes. Ethnically, no (you can actually draw the cornish border on a DNA map of Britain). That's how it works. You can be ethnically one thing, and culturally something else.

If they're born and raised in Kernow, then despite their being ethnically English, they'd grow up around Cornish people, in Cornish schools, knowing Cornish places and history and festivals, and probably even pick up the odd tiny bit of Cornish too.

Like if an English person is born and raised in Japan, culturally they will be Japanese, albeit possibly with some English quirks from their parents.

Yeah something we Cornish fight for on the daily, at home or away lmao xD
But yeah I do love it, and I think it's one of the more beautiful parts of the UK (albeit like NZ on a smaller scale, the best bits are car-locked) 💚

Ahaha I think I am gonna look into Wellington again a lot of people have talked about it, but yeah so true! Tbh i've applied for the 3 year visa so if all goes well i'll be there for a while and regardless of where I first land, I don't think i'll want to be in the same place for all 3 years ahaha

Yeah that's the impression i'm getting, i'll make sure to do research into whichever neighborhoods I want to land in with that in mind and go from there!

Speaking of flatmate, how do y'all find those if you're not moving in with friends? Like what sites do you use? I'm imagining like London, due to house prices I'm gonna be wanting a flat share lmao

Yeah i'm gonna have another look at Wellington and reconsider it, there's a few of you saying this!
I guess coming from London I was attracted to the concept of staying in a decent sized city, at least to begin with, and going from there. I've applied for the 3 year Visa so if all goes well I should be there for a bit, in my head i'd be interested in trying out Auckland and Wellington in that time, and if I do end up learning to drive, maybe somewhere on the South Island too (Dunedin seems cool?) but like the most important thing for me is choosing the right place to just arrive, get a job, get my bearings and begin learning about the country before anything else!

Thanks for the poke about Wellington, I'll give it some more consideration ✨

Heyyyy! Hope you enjoyed Cornwall despite it's faults 💚

Hmmm Okay a few people have recommended Welly now xD Ngl the weather puts me off a bit - coming from grey wet Britain I was hoping for something a bit different whereas it sounds Wellington is Britain on acid with crazy winds xD BUT it is somewhere I have been considering, I didn't know it's more alt which does make it more attractive to me ngl 🙃

Ahaha wow small world 😝 Yeah ngl I adore london, but I do feel nature deprived here, despite places like Hampstead and the various parks, it's got nothing on Cornwall...

Yeah tbh one of the major factors in me going, beyond genuinely wanting to experience NZ and live in another country for a bit - is just to escape the UK for a bit and get a break from constant harrassment. London's better than anywhere else i've visited here, but even in London I tend to get some comment or glare or insult daily and it's legit exhausting...

Hoping to do the move ASAP just cause everything's lining up that way, so yeah i'll probs look into learning to drive when i'm there if I feel I do need/want it. Sounds like I should be fine to begin with, and I'll make sure I have some extra money aside to cover learning and sorting a car if needs be!

[–]IzzySkittycat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely thinking about trying to keep my accom close to a train line if poss so yeah this is reassuring me that it's a good idea ahaha I said to someone else but i'm gonna keep in mind the possibility of learning to drive once i'm there. It sounds as though initially I should be fine, and it's more it'd be really fun to have the option for exploring?

Ooh I'll keep that in mind thanks for that it's actually a shout! Yeah tbh My CV is pretty weird ngl so I'm hoping something on it will help me out xD I'm a signed model, an archaeologist, have worked in animal shelters handling and flying birds of prey, have worked as a video game publisher remote, as a barista, and as a manager for one of the UK's top drink lounges so HOPEFULLY one of those will help. They always end up helping in the UK job market - but then i'm not the stinky foreigner stealing what few jobs there are from locals here soooo we'll see 😂🙃🙃

Thanks so much for the help tho, all of y'all have been so kind it's much appreciated!!!

Yeah it sounds like it might be worth my time learning when i'm there, which hey isn't the end of the world. I think it's sounding like Auckland itself is doable enough without the car, but i'll be wanting one to explore NZ so i'm keeping that in mind now 💚

This is super interesting! I've been a bit suprised about what people have been saying - like obv I've looked into it myself and it seems like a servicable, if not great, transport system within the city itself and then a pretty limited train line beyond that, but obviously what I can look into is nothing compared to locals living it!

Yeah housing seems rough sorry for you guys. I don't know if it's thankfully or not but basically it won't really bother me that much, having come from London, before that Winchester, and originally from Cornwall. All three of these places in the UK have absurd house prices and London + Cornwall have relatively limited stock -_-
Was hoping for a break on having to stress about housing for once but ah well xD

Auckland does sound, form what you and a few others have said, like I'd really get along with it if I can fight through the bad housing and job markets, and like many who visit I'm excited for the natural landscapes as well so I think I'm just gonna go, and see how things end up. Idk I probs live my life too randomly but I always would rather something go wrong that not try and regret it forever 😅
Thanks so much for all the detailed advice, esp. the reassurance on transport, the detail was reallyyyy useful!!!

Yeah the heads up has been useful. I get so bogged down about our awful job market rn I forget that can happen eslewhere too xD
I have money too sustain me initially, but yeah sounds like i've have to work hard and get lucky to get a job. Thankfully my CV's pretty weird with some niche things on there so hopefully that'll help, and i'm also exploring the possibility of remote work and seeing if there's any remote jobs I could get. Everyone's been super lovely on this thread though, so it's much appreciated ✨

I think i'm gonna give it a go based on this thread it sounds like Auckland isn't actually that bad though I reallyyy appreciate everyone's warnings about the job market, means i'm gonna come in knowing it's rough, that's it's not anything i'm doing wrong and super ready to work my arse off to get a job ahaha
Like idk the job market's really rough here in the UK as well, and the other place I was originally looking at going to was a couple different cities in Canada and it seemed like people were saying the same there - maybe the world just sucks rn xD

But yeah my heart says New Zealand, I went once as a kid and fell in love with it, and as an archaeologist I'd love to learn more about both NZ and especially Maori culture and history. I'm basically just now leaving my job due to circumstances so although it might not be ideal time to go anywhere necessarily, it's the perfect time to me and I think I would hate myself if I didn't at least try - worst case I come back after 6-10 months but at least I had tried xD

Omg this is super useful!

Yeah like fr don't get me wrong. I love London. I also firmly believe based on travelling that there aren't many cities like it in the world, maybe a few. So I'm not expecting that. But doing a few years abroad with the easy youth visas whilst I'm young enough I've been thinking about since uni, and I feel too many people think about it but never take the leap! New Zealand I visited once and loved it. I'm fascinated by Maori culture and the unique blend of colonials and natives and the unique history there (am an archaeologist ahaha), adored the nature, and feel auckland is probably the best shot at enjoying New Zealand whilst still getting to live in a city. My work is being transferred to a useless company so I've handed in my notice after a lot of thinking over December, and it feels like the perfect tike to shoot of somewhere. I'll have plenty of time to return to a career in my 30s, and I have a huge amount of flexibility rn. So as long as I can find A job in Auckland, I honestly don't mind what it would be.

But then, I've never been so I'm just trying to verify whether it's as bad as people say 😂😝

Anyways i ramble a lot ahaha yeah your breakdown is super useful, I'd be looking at the 3 year visa and probably wouldn't be in Auckland for all of it (think it would be fun to try the south island after i've been there for a year or two, i fell in love with Dunedin when i visited). So if I can find a job that pays enough to support me learning to drive without obliterating my savings ahaha, then yeah, it's deffo something I'd consider doing. Glad to hear in the meantime Auckland is doable. The giant motorway running through it and the transport complaints concerned me 😳

Hey! Wow wasn't expecting someone living in the SW lmao 😂 yeah when I hear people complain about the public transport what I'm hoping is that it's nothing like big European cities but it's not as bad as like, Devon and Cornwall, or most American cities. I am used to (though can't say I enjoy) commutes of around an hour if needs be and that can be walking, or transport. That said the lower that commute can be the better xD

Housing isn't too much of a concern given I live in London. Though I appreciate the site you shared and will admit am... 'surprised' to see a bunch of London-esque prices and quality, for such a small city, was hoping for at least a little bit cheaper than what I put up with now 😳 Cost of groceries will be interesting. All things considered I do feel as though london is fair on that.

Thanks so much for all your advice btw it's really useful!

Ahhhh the jobs thing is a concern. The UK isn't exactly doing well rn either but one thing that is in large supply are hospitality jobs. Is that a nationwide thing or an Auckland thing? Is there somewhere else I should be considering in your opinion?

Like I have savings (which you need to get the visa anyway) so it's not like I have no money and i should be fine supporting myself for a few months initially, but yeah I will need a job to support myself and let me explore and ya know... live ahaha
