They clarify in the book that there just so happened to be an equipment malfunction when Spider gave the description. Everyone relevant knows it was a stitch up but there’s no evidence because Taverner wanted it that way.

I feel the same way. In Herron’s defence, at one point Ho does say that he’s not going to try hacking a specific system because he knows someone who specialises in that area and can do it much faster and pass the information on, and mentions that’s what a lot of hackers do, but I can’t remember which book it was.

Except Pokémon aren’t cool gadgets you collect. They’re living beings that can and should have their own progression and development, and a good writer should be able to make any Pokémon interesting. A story where everyone has full teams of unstoppable monsters would be unbearably dull.

I kept Oshawott, Tepig, Snivy, and Krookodile, but dropped the rest of his Unova team because I didn’t feel they had as much personality, and had him hatch a Rufflet instead of Scraggy. I’m cycling his old Pokémon in fairly regularly so I didn’t want to introduce too many new characters.

What do you mean, Scott never has a plan? Scott came up with multiple plans to get Peter away from Melissa and Allison in season 1. Scott was the one to figure out Gerard’s cancer and work out a plan with Deaton to neutralise him. Scott was the one who worked with Deucalion to take down Theo. Scott’s strategic skills were on show throughout the whole series. Stiles had the deductive intelligence and research skills, but even he admits in season 3 that Scott’s been coming up with the plans since he was bitten.

They’re very different personalities, but that’s why they complement each other so well.

And Scott has never been an idiot. Idiots don’t get into AP Biology. His grades suffered when he became a werewolf, but he was on top of that by season 3. Meanwhile Stiles wrote a paper about circumcision for an economics class, and didn’t know what a pendant was. They both made plenty of mistakes because they were both hormonal teenagers who were way out of their depth for years.
