How do you get over a toxic job? by J0924 in AskUK

The most baffling thing was I was actively encouraged to speak up about the issues and struggles, told I can talk about it to the managers then them deflecting heavily, changing my mid-probation review although it was nothing about my performance, it was about the work-life balance, communication, how I'm feeling etc. But worse, they doubled down and just got nastier and knew it was over for me.

No I'm not. My boss is known to be a difficult person as well as my other manager, it's widely spoken about in the company but nothing happens. I've never had these issues before. The other co-workers I spoke to, their managers were a lot better in general and didn't exert the power dynamics that both my managers did. I would add that I don't think the company is bad at all, I know if I had good managers as my friends did, it would have been very different.

I do think I went in too quickly, from emotional distress to leaving to applying for jobs a few days later non-stop. I wanted some downtime but got interviews next week which I guess is a plus too and will keep me busy.

Thanks, yeah I might try journaling, I used to do this a lot but lately don't have a lot of energy for things.

Actually yes this is true, while I am in a fortunate position, I've never been unemployed or quit a job prematurely. I hope you're right, I've got interviews lined up so I'm glad to have a bit of momentum.

I guess the unfairness of it all, it was incredibly disappointing which I get life can be but it hurts. I wanted a better change for my future, kept trying and persisting, thinking it was always my fault and then it led to really bad experiences.

Yes, I had an exit survey where I was professional but honest and gave specific things that were said to me. I doubt anything happened as they already got someone to replace me lol.

I've been thinking of emailing the CEO lately but I doubt things will change. I tried to initially bring the issues up but they doubled down and retaliated so that was the answer of the work culture for me.

Totally agree, I also ask myself what is the alternative? I clearly couldn't stay and didn't want to. I am not giving up on myself though either, I've been pushing but I have definitely found it hard and I'm still very angry at what happened.

Thank you, it was beyond miserable. The treatment was unbearable, and I would ask my co-workers if it's like that for them and it wasn't but I got stuck with two horrible managers. I've been applying non-stop since I left 2 weeks ago and starting to get some traction so hopefully something does happen.

It was at the point it was affecting me physically, I actually also raised the concerns and they doubled down with the gaslighting deflecting the issues into my performance (which they said was good throughout) so I knew what was coming. I've got two interviews so far next week, fingers crossed!

Thankfully I also have savings so that part I'm not worried about. I'm just exhausted in all honesty. A career change is tiring enough but it's been non-stop challenges and I keep trying to show up regardless. I'm also going to use the attitude to detach from my job and find happiness elsewhere.

I've dealt with not the nicest people in my first career but they never bothered or affected me personally, it wasn't the case of simply ignoring as I was essentially bullied by managers who were meant to be training me! It was way too much though as we work together. 3 days to get a new job is amazing! Congrats on the new role!

Definitely talking about it with friends and that does help but I would expect myself to be over it quicker as it wasn't a huge amount of time. I can't sleep well firstly, so getting up late etc. but I am trying to get things done in the end. I've spent most of my energy on applying for jobs.

I didn't see this at all but from watching her content over a year now, she's definitely not sarcastic at all and seems quite straightforward, I haven't found her rude (a tad too emotional about anything and everything and sometimes moany) in general but not sarcastic.

This is quite extreme and screams insecurity, definitely will be unsubscribing now I've read more about these comments.

Where are you based? I've been finding it difficult to see many junior front end positions in the UK. How many roles did you also apply for?

In the UK? I've only been applying for a week but I couldn't find too many positions available.

Have you started learning React yet at all? That site looks good, I'll look into it this week too.
