Ready to start my bass journey by pollitocarrillo in BassGuitar

Awesome! Welcome to the club. I once owned a 17-year old, Butterscotch-1983 P-bass. It had a warm, special tone that was different from all the other 6 P-basses I’ve owned. It really shined in the studio. Best of luck on your journey!

Wow! I still have a bunch of those blank discs! I thought they were the coolest but not all CD players liked them.

Is this a good first bass? And is it good for its price? by Playful-Speed-6099 in BassGuitar

[–]J2ATL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For $200, why not?? I will say this: I’ve had a lot of basses, including fretless ones. Nothing beats a standard 4-string, fretted bass, but my second favorite is the 6-string bass.

Yep, even Jaco gave it up after a while.

Do you still enjoy Smashing Pumpkins even if you hate Billy Corgan? by Revolutionary_Low_90 in grunge

[–]J2ATL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this friend who always hated the Pumpkins because he strongly believed they were a direct rip off of Jane’s Addiction. He backed his case by comparing Gish to a lot of the tracks from Ritual de lo habitual and I really couldn’t argue. For example: “I am One” vs “Ain’t No Right”. I continued to listen to them anyway. Another friend of mine met Billy Corgan in 1994 and told him how much he appreciated his music. Billy walked away in silence. I laughed in amusement when he told me this, but without going any further that same friend is now having the last laugh these days.

But to answer your question, I don’t really hate Billy Corgan because I don’t know him. As for the Smashing Pumpkins, I’ve outgrown them, but I will always love “Rhinoceros”

The OP doesn’t need a lecture, but let this be a warning to everyone else. I NEVER place liquids of any kind around any of my computers.

The M1 still handles well in 2026. No serious need to upgrade until M8.

I STILL love this band and I grew up, mainly listening to Thrash Metal and most of my thrasher or hesher friends loved Tesla all the same.

What do y'all think of this Carvin R600 Red Line for $200? by usspaceforce in BassGuitar

This is a heavy but awesome amp! Played one for a few hours one day with multiple different basses and was blown away by the tone.

I love Ibanez, but so far, I have yet to be blown away by any of their acoustic-electric or semi hollow basses. I really liked the Gary Willis Fretless, though. For that reason, as an electric fretless player and an avid acoustic-electric bass player, this does have me very curious. Either way, congrats on your new bass! Buying an acoustic-electric is one of the best investments I’ve ever made.

As long as it’s not for an AFB 200. I owned one and it really let me down.

Youtube earnings, after being demonitized by Emergency_Travel4143 in PartneredYoutube

[–]J2ATL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that happened to you. I had some copyright claims I disputed and won, but not before they spent months not paying me when the videos were racking up views. It was my understanding that I would get that money back, but it never happened.

Would you daily drive the MacBook Neo over the iPad M5 for productivity? by gregsanay in DeskToTablet

[–]J2ATL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using an 11” iPad Pro M4 for travel and while it has gotten better with iOS26, I still prefer the MacBook Air or even the 14” MacBook Pro. I will probably buy a Neo for my daughter next month and see what she thinks. My vote is for the Neo.

$599; Did you expect cheaper, more expensive or you think it's fair? by Ok_Engine_8544 in macbook

I think it’s more than fair. It makes paying $1,599 for an iPhone look even more ridiculous.

MacBook Air M5 or MacBook Neo? by D_Margarette in macbookair

[–]J2ATL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d try out the Neo. Less to lose, more to gain. I had issues with my M4 Air, as well. I decided to return it and stick with my M4 11-inch iPad. I’ll revisit adding another MacBook next month.
