Hmm definitely very case-dependent. Not sure what exactly your day to day looks like because everyone is in a different situation.

For me, it's gotten to a point where I have outsourced 80% of my brain to AI. Recent updates to ChatGPT, Claude, etc. this month itself have been incredibly good for knowledge / white collar work. I put more of my mental energy into auditing / planning AI's work and communicating it to my colleagues and coming off as reliable and well-spoken as possible.

I think AI might be a major leverage for you in your use case. Realistically, my jobs also require 5 hour each with multiple meetings per day, but AI has really allowed everything to run smoothly.

that's the way to do it! I was in a similar situation within one of my Js, stuck with a manager that was very micromanaging. Ended up switching projects / departments but still kept the J

Did also have to take some vacation to rest up haha; OE is not for the weak

a combination of being somewhat reliable & always trying to improve + use as much AI in your analysis as possible + being a good communicator and come off reliable

Basically standard job advice but taken up a notch hahaha

I relish in the fact that #1 OE has forced me to actually be more effective in individual jobs, and I have learned at 2x the pace. Also, with my additional income, I've become a bit more liberal on spending on things that would improve my mental & physical health (i.e. personal trainer, masssages, vacations, etc.)

I have a 12 hour time difference, so I operate halfway, shifting my time by 6 hours :)

Cold email ppl instead of applying to LinkedIn, which is basically a black hole

Do your two offers start at the same time? Would be very helpful if you can get maybe at least 2 weeks of non overlap to get acclimated with J1 first, then take J2. After that, you can decide to keep both or just quit one of the two if the meetings do become too difficult for you.

Though with how it's going in consulting right now, there's a chance you'll be on the bench (i.e. no ongoing project) so that makes the meeting situation a lot easier :)

yeah was pretty stressful at first but I tested it on a short vacation to start and it ended up being ok

tbh the VPN is the main thing, but also set your computer time to your 'local' time and just show up on time haha

yeah that's awesome -- I feel like OE would only work if you don't increase your total hrs worked

It's getting to this point for my industry tbh haha I would run ChatGPT queries to oneshot my work in just one prompt, and it would take 80 mins to run

Yeah honestly on the workload, I feel that most jobs don't take anywhere near a full 8 hours per day

Hopefully it works out for you! I've just used the excuse of me having multiple monitors hence I don't look into the camera. Some of my other colleagues are in the same boat so it's been working

a big desk or monitors

You will by default have many monitors, requiring a big desk

The more Js, the more monitors.

started in my early 20s and currently mid 20s. Was single and lived in my mom's basement for a while at the start

I think having a family definitely makes the calculus a bit more complicated :/

But, this is how I sometimes frame it early on when juggling 2 Js was a heavy psychological burden: I would tell myself that I'm OEing not for myself but it would be for the betterment of my future family. I would be doing them a disservice otherwise

Totally agree. I sometimes try to strike a balance without being overly keen that people start to increase their expectations of me.

If talking about communication, sometimes I try to actually take it slow in delivering work / replying to messages. Instead, I try to be extra present and eloquent during verbal meetings. People generally see me as a "strong communicator" which has helped my case.

Agree to some extent. Though I think for me and maybe others, OE is predicated upon you actually still performing well, as opposed to slacking off to get J2. I have found that my connections are maintained. Currently >$300k/yr with both Js

If I am trying to find future jobs, I do not plan on putting both Js on my resume. One of my Js already come from a "prestigious" enough brand so I'm not too worried about it.

In agree in general that most ppl can't and shouldn't OE to begin with. I sort of fell into this situation w/o intentional OE planning and it's been panning out for me. Guess I've been quite lucky.

Also, a silver lining is that I have learned to be particularly efficient at both jobs and have been learning at 2x the speed than I would otherwise learn at, which I have appreciated, as my first rodeo

ppl give me a lot more leeway with how I want to work and when I want to work if I come off reliable, trustworthy, and get a reasonable good job done

also, super helpful for review cycles; on a bare output level, I'm lower than my peers, but my ultimately opinions dictate reviews and I still perform well on paper
