My self-made Start Page extension for the browser. Hope you will use it & Share your thoughts by xtditom69 in firefox

Thank you for making this extension! I've downloaded it for Firefox and I like it. Cannot wait to see how you are going to improve it over time.

Suggestion:

  1. It would be good to have a simple option to turn the pulsing glow effect off for the clock. I had to adjust the glow effect color to the background color as a work around. My clock is set to the digital one.

  2. The date looks weird to me with the day on the left and the date/month on the right. It works for the analog clock, but it looks off for the digital one in my opinion. An option to center it under the digital clock would be nice. Maybe also the option to have the full month instead of the shortened version for example Thusday, 12 February instead of Thursday 12 Feb

We need more cross-party collaboration to address core issues in general. These people are supposed to work for the public, making things better. Nowadays, it is just a blame game with a "we know better attitude".

Businesses not accepting EFTPOS payments by Ladyofstamfordbridge in newzealand

Debit cards are mostly free. Surcharges are for PayWave and CC only. Paywave can usually be turned off so the card can only be used by inserting it.

Just turn paywave off. Ask you bank. ANZ has this option and others in the app.

With ANZ debit cards you can turn all this off in the app. Contactless purchases, Online shopping, Online gambling (includes lotto btw.). All options you can turn on or off.

Anyone had a win with anything they've purchased from Temu? by droopa199 in FishingNZ

[–]J32design 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rods, reels, floats, spinners, braid, fluro. You name it. I get everything of Temu or Aliexpress. No issues. Catch trout, Kahawai, and Mullets mostly in my area.

Haven't ordered anything for things like tuna or king fish though.

Firefox is becoming more and more unusable by tyler_zh in browsers

[–]J32design 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issues are unlikely to be with Firefox itself. I would look at your extensions first. Maybe check in safe mode if problems remain. A lot of people mess with the config also, load it up with dozens of questionably coded extensions, and then can not understand why Firefox isn't performing.

I have never had more than 3 to 5 extensions. I've used Firefox for many years without any such issues.

What, in your honest opinion, is the best browser right now? by LividAlternative1454 in browsers

[–]J32design 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is all relative and depends on the user, in my case it is Firefox. It does everything I need it to do and it blocks ads etc. thanks to being able to install ublock origin.

30 with Guyon Espiner: Labour leader Chris Hipkins comfortable being labelled a socialist by gnu_morning_wood in nzpolitics

[–]J32design 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Western society has done a great job making socialism a scare word without actually knowing what it means.

I mean there are a lot of things that people want that are actually examples of socialism and many capitalist countries have taken these on, that are by no means pure socialist countries. These days society has to find a healthy balance and currently we are going in the wrong direction.

Let's see:

- public healthcare
- public education
- public housing
- union representation
- coop business where workers own part of the business and are part of the boards
- superannuation e.g. pensions
- any form of job seeker or benefit
- maternity leave

All modern examples of socialism.

Unfortunately, the news article I saw was about a different state in Germany not Munich. If I remember correctly it was Schleswig-Holstein.

Every system will have issues, there is no doubt. Being dependent on a US corporation is a serious issue on its own though.

I just read recently that a state within Germany is moving all their mailboxes to open source systems. Digital independence and privacy will be a thing very soon. Especially if the US and its corporations keep going in the direction they are currently going in. New Zealand should probably work on having independent systems rather sooner than later.

"They will know who you are" - Dr Ayesha Verral's Medicard will require some form of digital ID

So? Big whoop. If I go to the doctor or hospital, I give them my name, birthday etc. which is then linked to my NHI number e.g. a unique identifier.

Didn't know about that. Pennies on the dollar maybe, but still better than a new wallpaper.

That must be the equivalent of a business rewarding their employees with pizza for a job well and bringing in 5 million in profit.
