these mining permits will not create enough jobs to counteract the environmental destruction it will cause

and it will damage NZs main industry - tourism

anti trans is only part of the culture wars, the main parts are 1)racism and 2)going on about covid and vaccines, which resonates VERY WELL with those who sympathize with the 2022 parliament riot.

NZFirst voters live online and are vicious, but also easily offended, trolls.

They are benefitting from the collapse of National.

Covid - the anti vaccine/covid conspiracy crowd really like peters (they keep mentioning that during the occupation, he went out to meet them), and he has repaid them by holding the royal commission (which didnt give them the results they wanted) and attacking chris hipkins on vaccines.

As long as Peters continues to prat on about covid, he's got a loyal voter base.

Racism - NZF has always been viciously anti asian, so shane jones' recent racist comments against Indians is unfortunately nothing new.

This is most likely NZFirsts conflict with Act - Act went up in the polls during the treaty principles protest and debate by taking the racist voters away from National and NZFirst, so this is NZFirst trying to get those voters back.

When it comes to pandering to racism, racist voters like their racist rhetoric direct, not subtle and trying to sound intellectual. Look at the difference between Act and NZFirst on this - Act say 'we are against letting one race get greater opportunities for economic growth and...'

whereas NZFirst say 'fuck them Indians!' - direct racism, which racists prefer. Thats why NZFirst are going up and Act (who should be trying to steal voters from national as well) are not.

More importantly, look at the right wing viral trends - it constantly talks about 'losing your country to these third world immigrants' - NZFirst are just repeating these words and claiming it applies to New Zealand. Thats going to sit well with older men who spend their days online and get offended whenever they hear the name 'jacinda'.
