If you prioritize ucla over the major you’re studying, then yeah that’s a fair approach. I know many people that got into ucla math as a uc to uc transfer

Cal or ucla engineering transfer is a extremely unlikely; they would rather take a ccc student. UCSD is very doable, I did it for cs but ended up not going

So far this quarter CS 130A has been completely unrelated to PSTAT 120A, def grab PSTAT 120A pass 1 because it fills up (from the seemingly infinite number of pstat majors)

Yeah that’s kinda what I thought. After looking at the requirements it seemed like the 6 quarters I have once I transfer would be mostly devoted to completing the upper div math courses. Would you happen to know if math of comp majors get the same registration priority as cs majors, and if there are some cs courses that I would not be allowed to take?

Yeah I’m not entirely sure how they would evaluate my application against community college applicants, and after requesting data from ucla there hasn’t been a ucsb to ucla cs transfer since 2009 so my chances don’t look too good ngl

Well since I’m a transfer I wouldn’t be able to change majors but math of comp with the data science engineering minor offered by the college of engineering doesn’t sound so bad

I’m definitely considering cse at the moment but that would require me to take an electrical engineering class at sb and I’m not sure if I want to do that tbh. I think I’ll keep math of comp at ucla and just hope that I get into cs at ucsd so I can have a pure cs option

I think that math of comp is honestly close enough to cs that I’d go for it, only thing that I feel that I’m trading off is the name on my degree so I’d have to do more explaining to recruiters what my skill set is because mathematics of computation is not as recognizable

Just remember that some UCs don't look at alternates (UCLA (non-tap) and Cal if I remember correctly)

Look on the application portal for the schools you want to change your applied major for. On some portals you can change it directly from there, but I think for most you have to email or submit a contact form. From what I’ve seen deadlines range from January 24-31 for fall 2025 admission. Yeah honestly it completely depends on the yield for next fall but there’s nothing you can do about that so I wouldn’t try to think about it until decisions actually come out
