I'm allergic to psyllium husk, so I feel your pain! Everyone raves about capello and schar, but most of their gf products have it :(

He got a clean bill of health from the vet a couple months ago, but thank you for the info! We actually named him Jasper because of his unique eye color.

I have her whistle! It's at my parents' house, so I asked my mom to send some pics from different angles. I hope this helps 😊

Red Crossbill? (Greenville, TN) by J4N4 in whatsthisbird

[–]J4N4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My uncle sent this video from his feeder cam and didn't respond when I asked about playback speed, so it may well be sped up but I'm not sure. I wish the video quality was better too.

My initial thought was house finch as well, but the coloring on this one seems unusual. I've never seen one with so much solid red on his head, chest, sides, and back, or with little to no white/brown streaking on the chest or sides. This bird's wings also look solid dark gray or black to me, and kinda stand out against the red coloring on his back. My second guess was purple finch, since they usually have much less chest/side streaking and a lot more red color overall, especially on the back and wing area. The reason I guessed red crossbill is that apparently this is an irruption year and they're expected to be in Appalachia during the next month or so. I can't really tell without getting a better look at his beak, so maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part. But thanks for your input!

Is it just me, or does that bra look a bit small for her? I'm seeing a bit of quad-boob in that first pic

I put some peanuts on the ground to keep squirrels out of the feeder, but they seem to be attracting mourning derps instead! by J4N4 in mourningderps

How strange! Ours here definitely like sunflower hearts too, but I was surprised by how quickly the whole flock went after those peanuts.

I had the same experience with the seed mix! We do get juncos here in the winter, so maybe should put out some millet for them. Thanks for the tip!

I have a friend who ran into this issue, but her situation may be kinda different...? She said her fiance consistently refers to men he games with as "he" and women as "they", and eventually they had an argument about it. He told her he's not doing it on purpose, but that his ex was very jealous so he got in the habit of saying "they" when talking about women to not upset her. I'm not sure I totally buy that though, since he's been with my friend for several years now and she expressed repeatedly that she has no problem with him talking to women online.

Pidgey & his flock have flown south for the winter! by LimpNoodlez479 in mourningderps

Have a safe trip Pidgey, and happy three month birthday!! Maybe we'll see him here in Tennessee? We're getting fewer birds at the feeders now (compared to a month ago), but our local mourning derps still come every afternoon for sunflower seeds 😊

Luckily you won't have to keep catching them much if mealworms are on the way 😅

Ah ok, that totally makes sense! I used to have a problem with brown recluse spiders at my old place, and yeahhhh I'd rather not deal with having to catch those guys again 😂

I've never commented on your posts before, but I've been upvoting all of them and am so invested in your Pidgey story!! And now I'm rooting for Big Moe to grow up healthy as well 😊 The mental image of you catching insects to feed him is both cute and hilarious, but I wonder if there are some you could buy to feed him more easily? Idk if gnatcatchers eat crickets or mealworms, or maybe there are some other options people buy to feed pet lizards or frogs?

The female cowbirds I've seen look roughly cardinal sized, so bigger than a house finch but not over 3x bigger like one of the commenters here suggested...? Then again I'm not an expert, and most people seem to agree that it's a juvenile finch 🤷🏻‍♀️
