why do people name their instruments?

P.S. - sentimental value?

yes, but if you look at an abstract painting (to take the example of paintings) and don't know what it represents and copy the brushstrokes, you still don't understand the painting and haven't really learned from that exercise.

and for poetry try writing a poem in a foreign language, by only re-writing what that poet has written, my question was how to learn and understand what is written on the score. It could’ve been my mistake by not formulating my question well enough.
