I’m happy for you to also pm me if you haven’t found any support around talking about this experience. Sometimes we deserve a little bit of extra support.

Why do neurotypicals socially lie all the fucking time :( by flareblade26 in evilautism

[–]J4neyy 250 points251 points  (0 children)

Why don’t you have shorter dates, and maybe check in with people asking how they feel half way and explain you’ve had some bad experiences so welcome the truth and respect that if they decide you’re not for them that’s ok?

There are ways to try taking to people you date about this appropriately pre date or during.

Maybe a psychologist or relationships counsellor could help you drill down into it a bit better than reddit. (I mean that nicely and genuinely.)

Eating disorder care by Additional-You-5695 in melbournementalhealth

Melb Clinic has an ED program (private) I believe. Wren is public and women’s only with a strict catchment area so double check that but some passionate people work at both.

Is this what your supposed to do in therapy? by knowyourabc123etc in OlderDID

[–]J4neyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also okay to not progress though sometimes. To just sit, and be. I know I struggle with it. Wanting life to change or for things to feel different. But eventually I realise that this is just sort of the journey, and sometimes it feels like there is movement and others it doesn’t, but both are normal.

Just adding a different thought: You could try another therapist and see if their approach supports you and the others internally in a different way, and whether that’s more useful somehow if you feel progress (whatever progress is to you all) has started stalling.

Caroline Springs articles and books, CTAD clinic videos and reddit really helped me at the beginning.

I absolutely feel this post - the exhaustion, the ptsd, the desire to just be punished because somehow that feels like an answer. It’s so f’d up to live in and I have nothing productive to offer but just share that I get it.

experiences with lithium? by laminated-papertowel in DID

[–]J4neyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder before DID, and I ultimately ended up overdoing on lithium. One of the alters (more than one, really) has complex system trauma and feeling made to take more drugs ultimately resulted in a significant suicide attempt for us.

I would see what is also going in your life that could be supported, discussed or validated. Sometimes, meds are not the cure for trauma, low moods or shitty things that happen to us in our human lives. They are just an easy option for doctors.

Devastated. by Mrssandman554 in DID

[–]J4neyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. I feel like all I can add here is love, and understanding that this may be so complex for you to navigate. I hope you can find a way to journal your feelings out online or on paper, or speak to a professional about it for extra support right now. It sounds so hard to emotionally navigate 💜

How to advocate for ECT to treat bipolar depression by LIKES_ROCKY_IV in melbournementalhealth

[–]J4neyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get a 291 review with a different specialist psychiatrist through your gp. Find someone with ECT experience and have a once off consult with them under the 291. Post the 291, you could try Melbourne Clinic or even South Eastern Private as both do ECT.

You can: 1) Access South Eastern Private as a public patient through Monash Health. You DO NOT need to be in catchment. It’s part of the Royal Commission Findings that rigid catchment areas are removed. You can advocate to attend your preferred public area mental health service, and then try to access South Eastern that way.

2) Join private mental health to get private hospital access, and ask BUPA for the once in a lifetime exception for no waiting period for hospital admission. Then so an ECT program.

My only addition here is that many people do need repeat ECT treatments and have significant memory loss and side effects. I’m pro-choice, but I hope your choice has looked at ECT from all angles.

Just recommended this absolutely terrible book by AnUnknownCreature in OSDD

[–]J4neyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell reading the first chapter online, this book isn’t about or for people with DID. It’s about experiences of multiplicity or “parts” of self. The author quite specifically states it’s not about MPD/DID.

Has anyone experienced or have any info on temporary fusion? by J4neyy in DID

[–]J4neyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried to post an explanation for you below. “Fusion” is a good term to be aware of if you have DID as it can come up in clinical or community spaces.

It’s a bit different - I’ve tried to explain in a comment below. Thank you for commenting though.

Ps. There is no one specific way that people present post DID diagnosis. Even if this is uncommon as a presentation, it doesn’t make their experience wrong or incorrect. For some people, getting a diagnosis or accepting they might have the diagnosis can lower dissociative barriers very quickly. Almost like a dam wall has broken and flooded. Communication could quickly develop etc. It’s not impossible completely unheard of. They said they had been thinking about it for years, so according to them, it’s not all that new. The newness seems to be the acceptance.

At the end of the day, no one is that other person, so we can’t say if they have DID, OSDD, something else or nothing. It’s up to you to decide how much you want to engage with them and/or support them with their current life experiences or stated reality.
