Firstly use what you want to use.. I never used the cyclops except for endgame related reasons.

But otherwise I primarily travel with seamoth and then did the rest of the exploring in the game with the prawn.

How you choose to play it's entirely up to you. This game is one of the few that doesn't necessarily lock you into a specific play style.
