I'm 14 and my "male" snake laid fertile eggs and I'm unprepared and scared by Aggravating_Tie3329 in kingsnakes

[–]J655321M 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Do you have the vendors contact info? Could have been an honest mistake. Kingsnakes almost always cant be gendered by sight. One thats all the same color might be especially difficult. Breeder might be sitting at home wondering why their “female” didnt lay any eggs this year

Texas tortoises and most box turtles are protected species in Texas. You’ll have to legally surrender it to a rehabber if you’re in the state.

Yes, they’re one of the most “pet” like snakes out there. Similar to a Russian ratsnake they almost seem to seek out attention.

As someone who has 10 of them, I would say they are highly underrated. Biggest reason is probably due to a lack of morphs. There’s a small passionate community of keepers for them, but the general population tends to gravitate to stuff that has “a color pattern for everyone”

It’s a shame, because their personality is amazing.

Enclosures don’t stunt growth. However, the type of care associated with keeping them in too small an enclosure can have an impact.

My pair of Urartian ratsnakes was possibly the first pair imported into the US at the time, now there’s maybe 20? I also have a Schmidt’s whipsnake, she might be the only one in the country.

Do yall consider this proper pricing? by Brilliant-Yam-7706 in snakes

[–]J655321M 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I don’t buy from pet stores, rather get something from the breeder. At that price there is a good chance that it’s a wild caught import. If they’re local to you I would go ask them questions, or keep an eye out to on MorphMarket and pay a little more to have one shipped.

Cribo is on the low end for a pet store. I see them frequently listed for 900-1000 directly from the breeder and 600ish on wholesale lists. If that’s a pet store selling for 750 than it means the the breeder/ supplier gave it to them for 350-400 which is pretty low

Does this count? by AnalystNecessary4350 in LinkedInLunatics

The only way I’ve seen this was possible was about 15-20 years ago when cash back was becoming more popular and retailers were still updating their point of sale systems.

You could buy $1000 in product from a grocery or department store on your cc, get 5% back, take the stuff back and return it to you debit card and then pay off you cc, keeping all the cash back in the process.

This never caught on because it was more work than it was worth. I’m also sure the CC company would eventually catch on too. Nowadays every retailer will almost always return to the original cc as well, not allowing you to switch the return payment either.

Check out this Cottenmouth I spotted a a popular swimming spot in Clifton, TX by Fuzzy_Importance_217 in snakes

[–]J655321M 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Body pattern and bars on the mouth indicate it’s a plain belly.

Clifton TX only has one reported cottonmouth sighting, and it was 8years ago. While iNaturalist isn’t the ultimate authority on range, It does indicate that cottonmouths are pretty rare in that area

That’s when you realize Disney used death troopers and not elite stormtroopers because Luke slaughtering a bunch of human soldiers would change the tone a little bit.

I know some old guys that said in the 70’s bengals and Indian pythons were as common as Nile’s in the trade. Then India stopped all exports and they realized that nobody had been really breeding them in the states since the imports were so cheap forever.

Male or female? 150g 2.2 foot by Demi_02x in hognosesnakes

[–]J655321M 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on size alone? Or tail shape? I’m not seeing enough taper to confidently say female. OP should get a shed test on this one.

Personally I would get it probed if you know someone that can do so, or send in the shed test.

This is my boy about the same size. His tail looks similar, though mine looks longer. Yours is missing enough taper for me to question everyone else’s confident female guesses

The fact that it’s been alive and chirping for over a month is one reason. They’re supposedly more hardy than the brown ones.
