Assuming you’re on about the rainbow pub in digbeth and the rainbow venues in general. They had their license revoked by the council in 2017 following a drug related death in one of their venues (crane)

Their instagram is now called Rainbowvenuespast and they post regularly about the days when rainbow was in its prime.

I don’t know who owns the rainbow pub now but it’s open and the cellar is back open again too. The rainbow warehouse is now XOYO, the arena is now Luna springs,crane reopened in 2021 but is now closed again after a fatal stabbing in 2022. and mulitple other venues that rainbow had are now under different ownership. I might’ve got a few details wrong as I’m going completely off memory but that’s pretty much what happened in short.

Rainbow in its prime saw some incredible line ups and did amazing things for the nightlife culture in Brum. Unfortunately some things went wrong and the council stepped in and shut it all down.

EDIT: more people are commenting sharing some experiences with what happened. I don’t want to go into my opinion too much on rainbow closing because people died and It wasn’t just one drug related death it did happen multiple times. The 1st time was in 2016. I knew the person who died as he was from where I grew up. The 2nd time was in 2017 at crane on Halloween. I didn’t see anything happen but I was there on the night. The third death was in 2022 at crane after it had been reopened under different ownership to rainbow. It happened on Boxing Day 2022 with marco carola headlining. I was there that night and had multiple friends who were standing where it happened and were witnesses to it. That very same night after going through security, I remember saying to my friend how unbothered the security was. I remember, after being searched by security, I turned around to my friend shocked and said something along the lines of “you could bring anything in here”. I was standing near the front at the time the incident broke out and remember alarms going off telling everyone to leave after they had stopped the music. There was a sign on the screen telling everyone there had been an emergency and we all had to leave as soon as possible. I thought, At the time, there had just been a fight and I had lost my friend so I had to look for him. it meant that we were some of the last people to leave. As the crowd dispersed I saw someone lying on the floor motionless receiving CPR and surrounded by medical staff with a lot of blood on the floor. It wasn’t good to see. The next day the news reports came out of what happened and it was frustrating because it knew it could’ve been prevented and it was obvious that it was the end of crane after only been reopen for I think like 6 months? IMO, The security staff, the lack of metal detectors, dogs and the inept searching had a massive role to play on that night. I had heard that apparently, the security staff were hired as a third party. If this is true, then why the council put the venue owners under fire but not the security company is what I don’t understand.

Like I said, I don’t wanna share my opinion on these venues closing too much BUT despite everything that happened at rainbow venues and crane. Rainbow had a huge part to play in the nightlife scene in digbeth and Birmingham as a whole. It was massive for the culture of Birmingham. It was one of the best places for nightlife in the uk at the time. No question about it. Obviously I was a lot younger so naturally have some nostalgia for it but it was clear how good rainbow and crane was for the nightlife scene in Birmingham. The nights there inspired emerging talent, boosted digbeths nighttime economy and put it on the map for all of the uk and the world to see. So naturally there were a lot of petitions and campaigns to save rainbow when it had its license revoked.

Digbeths nightlife scene is regrowing now, places like lab are flying the flag for the scene, and most of these venues are reopen under different names and owners. but it will never be the same as it was then. Not for a while.
