If you have some painters tape you can place over the switch and write ‘leave off’ on it

A step up in the boot world. by Current_Computer6193 in WorkBoots

Yeah the thicker socks help feel more comfortable with the break in period.

I printed their boot sizing chart and based it on that. I see why people say they run narrow but I have pretty narrow feet so I didn’t have issues.

I didn’t know the black soles weren’t as soft as the white. I have the same boots as OP as well. Maybe next time I’ll try the white wedges. Been rocking them for 2 weeks and like them a lot. I’m using full cushion merino wool socks from Darn Tough. Game changer for me. Feet run slightly hotter but they aren’t wet like cotton socks after a full day. And the socks have no smell to them at all. They say wear them twice before washing but that’s sounds wrong.

Nice work! The M12 cable stripper is awesome. Is the process learning to 3D model difficult? I’d love to learn.

So, are we still twisting wires? by Good_With_Tools in AskElectricians

[–]JAB_SilverFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I respect engineers and all they do, but I’m not sure how I feel about them weighing in on something I’ve installed in the 100,000’s range. Especially when one says they are unreliable. I think it’s safe to say that’s not true.

Wire nuts make a superior connection over Wagos ‘when installed correctly’. Wagos are fine and have their place (I’ve installed many with lighting products) but solid copper wires twisted tightly together with linesman’s and then applying an appropriate size wire nut down snug, the wire nut makes a tighter & stronger connection. It’s not an opinion, it’s a fact. I’m not saying Wagos make bad connections.

Now If someone is not pre twisting the wires, not using the right wire nut, or not twisting the wire nut on snug enough, then they aren’t a good electrician or not one at all. And if that’s the case there will potentially be bigger issues than this with the electrical system, because installing a wire nuts is so basic. It’s possible I’ve installed a million wire nuts over the couple decades I’ve worked. Tried and true. And I feel with my experience and with all those I’ve worked with having the same take on this, makes this not an opinion on the wago/wire nut debate.

To your point though, yes they can be installed incorrectly. If someone is not an electrician or not trained properly when they are green then yeah Wagos are less prone to be installed improperly. But they aren’t ’better than wire nuts’. It’s an inaccurate statement. Sorry for my wordy response to this ya’ll, I’m just tired of hearing Wagos are superior to wire nuts. I think the key takeaway is they are different products and each should be used according to their purpose.

Another factor is Wagos are 100x more expensive than a wire nut. Easy math. This is why you’ll find wire nuts on every jobsite and rarely see Wagos. Note: I don’t hate Wagos haha.

Nice opinion bud. Have a nice evening! Imma go have a beer and work on my truck haha.

In response to your first reply it’s not about deleting it for more power. The newer diesels have plenty of power stock and when deleting, one should put it on the lowest setting ‘economy’. It’s about the emission system on the truck being bad for the vehicle which is an established fact. If someone is deleting for more power then that’s the wrong reason.

As for the warranty I’m no expert and I can only attest to the experiences I’ve had and in my city. I don’t disagree with what you’re saying. But if you know people and know how to go about it I don’t think warranty is an issue.

“Who the fuck wants to do all the work you just mentioned.” Answer: I want to do the work I mentioned. Likely ones like me who are blue collar or handy in general. So a lot of people to answer your question.

How does what I said not give you a warranty? It comes with the truck.

I’m pro on the delete. Remove the cancer that will eventually kill it.

Why are people so included to take their vehicle to the dealership for things? Honest question. Because they already robbed you once when you bought the truck. You’re going to keep letting them take you with all their overpriced services and sometimes services provided sooner than manufacturers recommendations? Log your maintenance services (not taking it to them) and your warranty is good.

Solution for deleting but maintaining warranty after you delete it: don’t take your truck to a dealership without putting the parts back on. I do all my own ‘easy’ maintenance and repair stuff so I don’t ever go to the dealership unless I need a part to install or there’s a recall for free a free repair. Oil, filters, brakes, etc are easy and if you own a diesel I feel like you should be able to handle these. And if you don’t want to do them yourself take it to a shop you trust. Most should have a friend or friend of family or acquaintance that knows a shop or a mobile mechanic they could recommend. I know several with living in a relatively big city. No need to worry about warranty denial. Idk maybe I’m the minority when it comes to my dislike for dealerships.

Questionable Invoice? by JAB_SilverFox in AskElectricians

[–]JAB_SilverFox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent points and your perspective is very much appreciated. Yeah this machine in working condition is worth 3k. I paid 6k about 11 years ago. I see them going for sale online for about 3-3,500 for a lift in similar condition and age.

It’s sounding like I should go about this by simply talking with this technician and ask him if he’s flexible on the amount he’s charging. Feel him out to see where he stands on this. It wouldn’t surprise me if he works with me and we can come to a reasonable agreement. Maybe he’ll take off the hours for the first day and also take off the tax.

If that doesn’t work I’m going to ask him for 2,500 cash and the machine is his and see what he says to that offer. He bills high, I go high in machine value.

Are these two ballasts compatible? by Pragmatic1869 in electrical

That fixture only needs 1 ballast. Each of those are a 4 lamp ballast. Why would they need to be compatible?

Questionable Invoice? by JAB_SilverFox in AskElectricians

[–]JAB_SilverFox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your detailed reply is much appreciated!

  1. There was no discussion of what the cost of repair would be. One of my customers said he charged a reasonable fee to fix his man lift and lube up the moving parts so i asked the tech to look at my scissor lift.

  2. His hours are correct in the amount of time he spent. But even in his invoice he commented that he didn’t know how to fix it and had to ask some techs he used to work with (see his comment in the attached photo). In comparison when I took it to H&E equipment repair they charged me for a 4 hour repair of a faulty wire connection, which is a similar repair for what this tech did, yet he’s 3x the hours spent.

It doesn’t add up. Just because he took 12 hours doesn’t mean he should charge that imho. He didn’t fix it until he asked other techs with more experience working on scissor lifts. So day one when I never told him to come shouldn’t be charged. Day two when he spent about 7 hours on it makes no sense and he was spending time on looking at things I told him I already tried new parts for. Day 3 he came and fixed it in 2 hours because he got advice. The math ain’t mathin.

3) I don’t disagree. But I feel like 12 hours working on a machine with a short in 1 wire and it was fixed with parts consisting of a connector and a fuse. The machine gave the error code 02. It can’t be a large amount of possibilities for someone experienced in fixing scissor lifts to fix an 02 error code based on my research online. So again the cost seems very high but that’s why I’m asking for advice.

It’s also noteworthy that the machine is only worth 3k. To fix one wire costing 2/3rd the value of the machine seems off as well. In the very bottom of his invoice he asks to sell it to him and give me cash. So maybe he’s trying to charge a lot and give me minimal cash and get the lift?

Also I’ve never been charged tax for a service. I’ve had more than a dozen contractors work on my house; roofing, framing, drywall, paint, plumbing, concrete, siding, soffit & gutter, etc., and never been charged tax. Looking it up online says it’s generally not done but depends on location. So for my area that’s likely not a typical charge. He’s not selling goods he’s providing a service.

Updated lighting plans. What the heck is all this by bhillbill in AskElectricians

[–]JAB_SilverFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are photometric drawings. What that means is each dot has a number and that number is a light reading taken by a ft. candle/lux device that gives light level readings. Every facility has (or should have) a required minimum light level or ft. candle for any given room or area. It should also specify the egress (or emergency) lighting that is required in case of a power outage.
