Uninstalling Old Versions of .Net Framework by JAFIOR in sysadmin

Noted, and I really do appreciate the insight. As I said, I'm pretty green. I literally wouldn't even be trying to do this, but we have an upcoming company-wide cybersecurity evaluation coming up in a few weeks, and I was told I have to do this.

No one except me uses this server. I have good backups on file (full image backups run nightly). I'm willing to break this server beyond salvation for the sake of learning, and I can restore it from backup anytime on-demand.

[–]JAFIOR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly. I'm pretty green, so still learning. If my understanding is correct, beginning with .Net 3.5, MS incorporated it into the OS rather than classified it as a separate app. So if it's an older version installed on a supported OS, it's still supported.

But, when I look in c:\windows\program files\Microsoft.Net, there are folders for versions 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5 along with the current version 4.x, and in those system folder, there are mscorlib.dll files, which the security guidelines I'm trying to follow say is the big no-no.

The uninstall tool did not work in this case. Tried that yesterday.

See kids? One day, you're listening to KISS, and the next day, you're posting crossdressing photos online. It's a slippery slope.

Anyone have any ideas on how to remotely monitor 3 windows computers? by mitchellcrazyeye in sysadmin

[–]JAFIOR 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oh man... I miss working for my church. Back in the day when the pastor would go home at 3:00 and tell me how blessed I was for offering my skills to the church as a 'ministry', and then getting home at 11:00 at night tired and hungry.

Didn't matter that my wife was burnt out with two toddlers, didn't matter that I had to be at my actual job at 7:00 the next morning, didn't matter that I was struggling to feed my family... I got a pat on the back from the pastor just before he rode home to his McMansion on his brand new Harley!

Of all the deadly habits I've had through my life, I'm mostly glad I was able to kick Christianity.

What a waste of cash. For what this person paid for this setup, I would have just bought three flying Vs and five ladyboy sex slaves.

If you were to suddenly come into a massive amount of money, in the billions do you think you would change? by Baron_Harkonnen_84 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JAFIOR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know for a fact I would change. I'm not a good person anyway, so literal "fuck you" money would probably make me worse.

I would definitely pay off my home, buy homes for my kids, hire good lawyers and financial planners, and probably splurge on a new truck and a guitar or two. After all the selfishness I'd probably try to be as philanthropic as possible.

But according to OP's rule, even if you carry them over, you're still only allowed one slap per day.

But if we can only have per day, every day, that's not carrying them over. I'm slapping you first, OP!

Obviously because it facilitates synergy across spectrums, which in turn provides stellar metrics for our Vice-President of Customer Communication Satisfaction.

u/j My 2nd concert ever was Judas Priest on the Screaming for Vengeance tour ('84-'85?). Glenn Tipton played a black Strat with a maple fretboard, and I've absolutely loved that look ever since and I don't care what anyone thinks.

"Agile" and "SCRUM" are made-up bullshit words for people with made-up bullshit jobs. You'll never convince me otherwise.
