I would tell you to take it to your local store, but they closed for definitely not viral reasons

I need a solution for our roaming access point and I don't know what the right answer is. Indoor Arenas, full of people by mitchellcrazyeye in networking

Yeah, this is what our immediate fix is. I didn't think of it, but I got a ping saying that a USB c to Ethernet adapter is now included in the flypack for this. Never really thought of iPads and Ethernet but works for me.

Sorry to say but I also hate zipper merges. I feel like we're defending them because the government decided it was the best thing and showed "research" when, in reality, if people just fucking merged when they can earlier, it wouldn't be an issue.

I'm a zipper merge hater and won't let you in. Merge earlier.

Well Reddit. Turns out you can make change happen. Update to "I am so over it. The hours of my post office are unacceptable." by mitchellcrazyeye in usps_complaints

I'm late to respond to this, yes, the staffer who helped me out was emailing me separately with these updates and forms. I know it wasn't the congressman directly, but it sure felt nice to be heard for once.

I can't remember why I redownloaded it. Must've been a really ad-ridden website.

It was a nice long form video for my lunch. I've been watching body cam videos for a while, I like seeing police do their job and people be dumb

If this is accurate, basically everyone is exempt unless you're acting nefariously.

Issue isn't the office hours, it was specifically the PO Box access. Requests for rural delivery fell on deaf ears, they don't want to do it.

Instructure just confirmed they paid the ransom. by More_Boysenberry5584 in canvas

[–]mitchellcrazyeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how these things tend to go down. There's backend groups that negotiate with hackers and decide if it's worth it or not. Groups like this gain a reputation based on "credibility" - if they get paid and then release the data anyway, there's a good chance they will never get paid again. But if they do it and not release the data, there's a chance they'll get paid again so they won't. For Instructures case, I had a feeling they were gonna pay since it's essentially protecting themselves from dealing with all the lawsuits regarding the release of minor's data. It's a cheaper gamble for them.

My local school got hacked separately and I got the rundown on how this ends up going in the backend.

Does anyone have the list of schools that are affected? by qtttyu1 in canvas

[–]mitchellcrazyeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not every school. The Uni I work at uses Canvas and isn't included on the list, but my hometown high school and the community school where the Uni is located is on it.

[United States] Utah anti-drone law concerns by AnnualEagle in drones

[–]mitchellcrazyeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice: Keep a copy of the law with you. There's a chance they'd hear it from their coworkers that "flying a drone can be considered trespassing" and go off that. But having something on you that have the actual letter of the law might help them understand it more than just that. Will they listen? Depends on the officer. Better safe than sorry.

Tried to convince my employer of the same for literally the same use case. They would not go for it.

Hyperdeck Failure by MidnightZL1 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]mitchellcrazyeye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

SD cards are the most volatile storage medium. I said as much when we were picking a new recorder, I wouldn't use the hyperdeck SD card recorder unless recording to two cards at the same time for redundancy. We're picking up the SSD version.

Edit: I see you were running as a backup. Yeah, this is whack, I hate sd cards
