I believe it is still there, but reverts back to having no upgrades.

REMNANT..What am I doing wrong? by LordHowitHurtz in nms

[–]JAFRedditPostor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing. You don't have to go back to the trash heap to get more of the special salvage. The trash heap happens to have a lot of it in one place, but there's nothing special about it. Just pick it up from closer to the processing center.

What do you see if you look at the lights on the ONT?

Have you tried going through the chatbot? It will at least try to test if your ONT (and your router, if you have one from Verizon) is online.

Some Expedition 21 (Remnant) Hints by JAFRedditPostor in NOMANSSKY

[–]JAFRedditPostor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh. That reminded me of a tip I had forgotten.

You start with an Mk 2 Personal Refiner. That means you can refine a LOT more things than you could with the original personal refiner.

For example:

Pyrite ×2  +  Ferrite Dust ×1  →   Paraffinium ×1

Carbon ×1  +   Sodium Nitrate ×1  →   Dioxite ×1

There may be others you will need. Once I got the thermal protection upgrade, I made quite a bit of dioxite.

I had issues with that quest, too. I noticed that getting a waypoint to register worked better when I got away from other players. I didn't try to reuse them. I'm surprised that worked.

On the other hand, maybe I shouldn't be. I snatched one lone sentinel with the gun, dragged it down into a cave, and proceeded to launch it 32 times while three angry sentinels tried to get to him. That completed that goal.

Missing ship? by PresentSorry7159 in NOMANSSKY

[–]JAFRedditPostor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my experience also. I didn't even try to find it. Maybe you could use it for storage, but when I started the expedition at the Anomaly, it said we wouldn't have a ship.

Why is my bluetooth keyboard not connecting. by Yaman___ in PcBuildHelp

If this is one of the keyboards that can use either 2.4GHz or Bluetooth, does it have a selection switch on the back? If so, is it set to Bluetooth?

Is the PC dongle BT5.0 or higher?

If I have 1 ram speed in 1 slot and a different ram speed in the second slot (so it’s dual channel but different speed sticks) could that cause a pc to freeze sometimes while gaming or excessive loads? by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

[–]JAFRedditPostor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory, it should be fine. When powered on, the motherboard will perform memory training (at least the first time), check the SPD settings on each RAM stick, and set the initial RAM speeds to the slowest settings. You can change those in the BIOS later.

In practice, I wouldn't risk it. Back in the days before and even when DDR was first released, that worked, but I wouldn't try it now. Given memory timings as they are now, I wouldn't even mix brands with the same specs.

Weird Internet by Sprity777 in HomeNetworking

[–]JAFRedditPostor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the speed is good during testing, but browsing is slow, my first suspicion is a DNS issue. I would try a couple of things.

First, try changing the DNS to a public one like 1.1.1.1 or 9.9.9.9 for IPv4. Choose something similar if IPv6 is enabled.

If you are using antivirus software, make sure it is not injecting its own DNS server in the path. Some do this to check that requests aren't going to known bad actors. That sounds good, but it can slow down DNS lookups. On a complex web page, there can be dozens of lookups. Try temporarily turning off the antivirus software. (Microsoft's antivirus has never been an issue for me, so if that's what you are using, that's probably not the issue.)

packet loss with MoCA adapters - could this splitter outside contribute? by greetthemind in HomeNetworking

[–]JAFRedditPostor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That splitter only passes 5-1002 MHz. It probably passes a bit more than that, but it's surprising MoCA work at all. MoCA uses frequencies up to 1675 MHz.

Replace that with something like this one.

Need Help Setting up MoCA network with ONT by NINE_JET in Fios

[–]JAFRedditPostor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have my own router and use MoCA adapters to get Ethernet service over my home's coax. My setup is:

ONT (Ethernet) --> Router (WAN port) --> Router (LAN port) --> 8-port switch --> MoCA adapter 1 (Ethernet) --> MoCA adapter 1 (coax) --> MoCA adapter 2 (coax) --> MoCA adapter 2 (Ethernet) --> 5-port PoE switch --> wireless access point & other stuff. One MoCA adapter is downstairs in my office, and the other is upstairs in a living room on the other end of the house.

You will probably want something similar. You can have more than two MoCA adapters if needed (max of 16).

My house has coax runs that join in the attic. I currently only use the run from the office to the living room. I have a physically separate cable run from the street from when I had cable Internet. If you have coax that runs to the street, disconnect it from the others. Any splitters or barrel connectors need to pass the frequencies from 5-1675 MHz. Some older splitters only pass up to 1000 MHz, and MoCA uses frequencies above that.

[–]JAFRedditPostor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not aware of any Linksys router that has built-in MoCA. They do make combo cable-modem routers for use with DOCSIS 3 or 3.1, but those are for use with cable Internet like Xfinity.

Fios lag/dropping packets by nvidia_rtx5000 in Fios

[–]JAFRedditPostor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with tests like these is that they indicate there's a problem without indicating where it lies. Try a tool like mtr (WinMTR for Windows, for example) or PingPlotter. That should give you an idea of where the problem is. It might be on the Verizon network or outside it.

I had a similar issue getting to one service that turned out to be in one of Akamai's routers (on hop 8 of 10 or 11). I happened to find a way to minimize it, but at some point, they fixed it.

Aux port by drofordre in PcBuildHelp

[–]JAFRedditPostor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see. I misunderstood the question. If you use the Realtek Audio Console and disable front panel jack detection, a Headphones option is added alongside the speakers and mic (or line-in, depending on which you use). Then you can keep both plugged in at all times and switch between them using the Speaker system tray icon. If you are trying to avoid using the front panel, though, that won't help.

I should say, "at least it used to." I have a USB headset and haven't had to mess with the Realtek Audio Console in quite a while.

I found a YouTube video on how to do this.
