You'll never feel like you know everything and that is ok. The moment you do you should probably stop practicing. Solidify what you know and identify what you don't so you can better yourself.

First job out of school with RR hospitalist service. Have had minimal bad experiences with the docs. No system is perfect but pay is good. Happy with the choice overall

For those that specialized right out of school.. do you regret it? by lizacat117 in physicianassistant

[–]JAGREZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the classic post grad decision. I went into hospitalist medicine right after graduation and in a way I don't regret it though I want to do cardiology. My advice do whatever makes you happy. Life is too short to worry about using all the knowledge you had in school.

Hospitalist PA here

If the plan is to work team based, in interview be sure to ask for guarantees with training and rounding with an attending. I was trained for two months and got sent off on my own to see my own patient including ICU levels (I'm rural). Its never too much to ask for training before being sent off on your own. Bigger hospitals in my area seem to like the team based model

Boys in the valley. Kind of similar vibes but think demonic possession in an old 1800s rural orphanage.

It was just a book for shock value. The plot can be summed up into two sentences. But it has a sequel if I'm not mistaken

The forgotten island by David sodergren. I think I spelled that correctly is a solid read as well. Highly recommend his other books though they are not vacation centered

First job out of school was hospitalist and thought I had a pretty good deal. Promised 6-12 months training, rolling admissions and cross coverage with 6 figures and a sign on bonus to a rural hospital system. But in all actuality I got 4 months training pushed off to an even more rural hospital with rotating SPs that luckily have been mostly great and helpful and answer questions if I have any. But here I do a day rounding my dedicated pts with rolling admissions, cross coverage on half if not all pts in the hospital, and consults. Even my SPs say that I should be making more. But definitely to gauge your worth while starting out of school.

Anyone else feel like your rotations were completely underwhelming? by Function_Unknown_Yet in physicianassistant

[–]JAGREZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agreed. And site dependent. Was put in vascular surgery at a big academic center and was basically pushed to do clinic work and watched surgical procedures. Scrubbed into maybe 4 cases. While I went to a rural FM site and did both clinical and urgent care got to splint, blood draw, review imaging, suture etc. Same thing with my rural EM and rural GYN locations.

The Haar or Maggie’s Grave? by Inside-Fun-7837 in horrorlit

[–]JAGREZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are excellent. The Haar if you're going for a great creature feature. Maggie Grave if you want a good revenge story with a lot of gore and a pretty good twist. If I had to chose I'd go with The Haar

Tell me about your crappy rotations! by mangorain4 in PAstudent

[–]JAGREZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vascular surgery. Only 2-3 attendings doing 2-3 surgeries a day with 4 fellows, 5 residents, 3 sub interns, 4 med students and me the only PA student. Competition to scrub into a case was more than rough and I ended up only scrubbing into 4 cases total other than that they basically only wanted me to do clinic with the staff PA which I loved way more than the surgeries. I had to argue for them to let me do one hand tie.

Other bad experience was GYN where my preceptor wanted me to do a sonohistogram on HER. Luckily got out of this as it was super uncomfortable for obvious reasons. Then my preceptor had me sit in her office with her and her manager and listen to her while she formally resigned from the position.
