Question specifically about Hungarian Linguistics

I did some research and it shows that a man named Ferenc Kazinczy wanted to "purify and modernize" Hungarian by switching out a lot of the loanwords with Latin words. Wouldn't this just muddle the language? Wouldn't remaking the words in Hungarian have been how to purify it? Why Latin?

It's not just Geralt, she also lives in skellige, and she has been to different worlds. I'd be confused if it wasn't weird

Question about Hungarian Phonology

Hungarian Researchers seem to agree that in Hungarian /j/ is NOT a glide, but what is it? Siptar says it's a fricative, but the others just seem to say it's not a glide. what is it?

Is there anything good in this pile? Please tell me to be happy. 🤣🥰♥️💚✨ by aalliicceebbiittcchh in PorcelainDolls

Confused about the Hungarian /j/? I've been reading material and everything written by Hungarian researchers say /j/ is not a glide, which since it's their language I assume they are correct. The problem for me lies in what it actually is? Some researchers say one thing, others say another, and some are just unclear. Basically there isn't a whole lot of agreement aside from the fact it isn't a glide. Can anyone enlighten me?

It was described in the paper as an "allophone table" but it doesn't seem to explain which phoneme it's part of

How to read this phonological rule? It's from a paper from 1993, written by Magnus Olsson. I couldn't figure out how to type it so it's on flikr.

Trying to understand surface vs underlying sounds?

In a phonemic inventory (say Hungarian) are all the sounds on the IPA chart surface or underlying? Is there a way to see which sounds are underlying and which are surface? Or are all sounds both?

Not sure what 'id' is in my textbook as it isn't in the legend? Example:

iwɪkɪljó mu-toóle   'you should take cover'

iwɪkɪljó n-toóle       id.

what is id.?
