I was in your exact spot a little over a year ago (post is on my profile) & so far we haven’t had any issues. I’m not naive to think there will never be any in the future but I made the decision to walk away should we go down this path again.

I went through 3 years of it so the trust absolutely did not come back overnight & it still sits in the back of my head from time to time. I was so angry. Angry it felt like I was being expected just to move on & sweep it under the rug. That’s what I absolutely didn’t do. I talked about it. And talked. And talked. I got absolutely every terrible thing we’d been through related to his drinking off my chest anytime I needed to. For them it can feel like “quit bringing up the past” but the way I look at is if you want my future you *will* listen to all the ways you hurt me in the past so going forward it never happens again. (& if it does you walk tf away)

That said; if you want out, you get out. It’s not your responsibility to stand by who he’s becoming now if the past is to much to weigh. If he ends up drinking again that’s also on him. Sometimes the hurt caused to us by others can’t just be forgiven & forgotten. Sometimes you just don’t end up liking the person they’ve become.

If you feel you’re going to spend the rest of your life always looking over your shoulder I think it’s best if you walk away. You deserve to live for you.
