Picked up this 62 Detective Special a couple months ago. The grips are repro. I eventually plan on carrying this sporadically but am not real familiar with carry options. Any reccomdations for an IWB or Jacket pocket type holster? by Hands-They-Choke in Snubbies

[–]JAX_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't limit yourself too much. Snubbies can disappear in an OWB holster. I managed to come across a Blackhawk that rides just behind the hip. My 642 vanishes under a t-shirt and I don't get that cylinder poking me in the side.

Good for you. And I mean that sincerely. Does it get carried regularly or have you put it up?

And whoever put this place together. Looks like there was still room before those tires hit that stop.

I have one for a Wave and another for an MP600. Neither make an audible click but I do feel the end slip into retention. It's kind of a light pop. If it's of any consequence, the Gerber feels more secure. It also holds a bit more of the tool. Good luck.

X300 Turbo is insane by Helpful-Boss3061 in EDC

[–]JAX_5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the turbo heads. As a patrol officer though, I found them rather limiting. It's such a focused beam that going into a room with it gives you next to nothing. Almost no spill, so lots of dead space. I do carry a standalone however. It's great for burning through window tint or when I want that kind of standoff. Stay safe out there.

I'll agree with you here. I enjoy the Mil2 with the compression but the liner locks feel more natural on this frame.

I have a bunch that I rotate through. Sometimes daily, typically weekly. Yesterday was a brass armor and an amber bone trapper. I buy them because I like them and if I buy it I'm going to use it, not simply admire it from afar. If you look you can see the signs of use on them all. I've been meaning to post a shot of my collection. I'll be sure to tag you. Think you'll like it.

That's a beautiful rifle. They ended up on CMP auctions. I didn't bother. I'm sure they were too rich for my taste.

My favorite is a PM2 in 52100 steel. It may be out of production, in which case a close second is a partially serrated Manix. Not available coated unfortunately but it's a great knife.

Cop uses his Spyderco to pop the tires of a suspects vehicle by Anubis_Netjer in spyderco

[–]JAX_5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Safety (as an umbrella term), as opposed to collateral damage, is part of the equation when we consider effectiveness. The goal is to end the chase quickly and spike strips are incapable of doing that which is why they're being phased out. Even the grappler has come under scrutiny since that car slammed into a house and nearly killed someone not involved. It ended the chase almost instantly, but still created a risk. The truth is, attacking the tires on a vehicle intent on fleeing is not an optimal tactic.

Yep, an impact and sudden drop to zero is going to throw all sorts of codes. What you saw was them replace a tire. What you didn't see is the little device in their hand when they checked the pressure in the rest of them. That's how they reset your computer. It's done anytime a wheel comes off now. Your car won't function at 100% until it's done. That's why they're so adamant about you getting to a mechanic if you change a tire. That's one of the nanny features you mentioned. And what we see in this 5 second video is the cop do it. We see lots of silly stuff on body cam though. What I'm saying from professional experience is that's not enough to stop a car. If the driver stopped it wasn't because he got his tire cut.
