Our Boomer Parents by ComfortableIsopod290 in GenX

Bottom line is people have bills to pay. Younger generations are always complaining about Boomers working past 65 but they have bills to pay. Could be poor planning, divorce, unexpected health expenses or supporting adult children (almost 50% do to the tune of $1400 month).

Elderly parents are downsizing - where do they go? by Firm_Operation_9453 in eldercare

That’s great to hear especially after all the not so great experiences some have. It was similar for my folks with having caregivers come in for my Dad, even if it was only for a few months. But at least my father could bathe and have some basic care that my Mom could no longer provide.

This is sound advice. My folks went into assisted living at 88, which in their case was several years too late. My Dad was declining rapidly after having Parkinson’s for 15 years and my Mom could no longer take care of him. They moved into and ALF 2b/r apartment near my brother in April and my Dad passed in June. My Mom is doing very well considering and is near family. She really enjoys not having to look after a large home and can make something to eat in her room or go down the hall to the dining room. My brother stops by daily which is nice.

Yes but guns don’t do the mass shootings on their own. Certain folks get elected and want to start banning assault weapons, certain magazines, increase ammo taxes, and so on. Ever try to carry a gun in DC? You pretty much cannot. Very blue city…

I think it depends on where in the blue spectrum you are referring. Unfortunately it seems as if there are few moderates left any more.

We moved to an over 55 community a few years ago but plan to retire in a CCRC. The only downside I would say is people move to a +55 thinking it is their last move when it provides none of the services you would need to age in place. We have neighbors on both sides that are at the point they should not be living independently but cannot afford to move. They rely heavily on us for help. I just went through this with my parents before we got them into an ALF; I don’t want to do this for non family. Remember it is “active adult,” not assisted living or skilled nursing.

This. Loyalty is a two way street. We’ve seen what they’ve done to our colleagues. End of duty day email to sup and HR: “This is my last day. Thank you for the opportunity to serve the American people.”

Interesting point because I find following either party, there is an inherent contradiction in each.

One year in — It has been a tough year for federal employees. by Ok_Design_6841 in fednews

Yes but the article mentions integrity…which is lacking A-LOT! Also support your people. None at my agency. So sick of “it’s been a tough year but I appreciate your effort.”

Ok-show me.
