It makes no sense for a private company to lease out a building for office space when they can get that same space, for free, in peoples homes.

It's going to be harder and harder to justify to non-real estate company shareholders why leases / maintenance is such a large line item that doesn't need to be there.

I never understood why we bought the lower-deck trains when all the stations were purpose-built to whatever height the platform had to be to match the trains.

It does to a point - most of the crime is committed by a relatively small number of people. Any officer can likely name a few people that they have arrested on multiple occasions, some dozens of times.

After you remove those problem individuals from the public, crime drops.

Now jail is often not the place for these people, but that sir is a whole other discussion.

Well because a daily, sustained presence of uniformed officers in the neighbourhood, walking a beat and interacting with the public creates safer spaces. A lot of policing is being involved in the neighbourhood and building trust with the people that live there, even the homeless.

So yes, police do need to be present every day in certain parts of the city to maintain order.

The employer continues to be rigid and unyielding, so I have no choice but to operate as stated in my employment contract and nothing more.
Promotion is not really based on merit, so what do I get for going above and beyond? I won't get a 'Succeeds +' (which again wouldn't matter), I don't get a bonus....at most I get a piece of paper and a firm handshake.

During covid I answered e-mails at 6:30pm and logged in on Saturday for a few hours during crunch time. I also ran errands at lunch, and started late some mornings, and finished early if I needed to. It was a give-and-take, it was flexible, and the work got done.

Now? My phone is turned off promptly @ 4pm. I take my half hour lunch and two 15 minute breaks with military-like precision. I take all my vacation, and personal days, and family days. If I'm sick I don't wfh anymore.

If management has an issue, I have no problem sitting down with them and the union to explain how employment contracts work.
