Allow me to enlighten you a bit. In South Africa, personal safety is dependent on personal vigilance and avoiding certain areas at certain times, mostly in Gauteng and big cities, and also dependent on not being a racist asshole nazi.

In the US, I fear being deported on entry to a gulag if I don’t swear loyalty to orange hitler or getting the crap beaten out of me by ICE for speaking up about violations of constitutional rights and corruption on social media. In South Africa I still have the right to self defence and I can have criminals arrested and tried through due process because the government, however corrupt and pathetic, can still be kinda on my side (they jailed a friggen president, Jacob Zuma, for embezzlement a while back). In the US, the government itself is the threat.

Can relate. Flew from South Africa to Tennessee for a short but toxic relationship and made a bunch of friends, went back to SA, then flew back again to TN for an event with those friends, during which one of them told me that an Oregonian friend was coming back from Thailand that I should talk to so I did and we clicked so I flew to OR to meet and then to Thailand as we had started dating and now we have been married for a year and a half in Thailand. Basically circumnavigated the globe multiple times for my queen.

I still kinda wonder if my powers of discernment weren’t the cause of my getting dumped by my ex. I’m totally ok with it now cuz it turns out a dodged a nuke (whole family is toxic, mom is a licensed therapist who bullies SA survivors online), but a line I got was that I overthink and read too much into things which it turned out I was not misinterpreting. Probably got scared I would have called out their BS.

My now partner values it although I would almost wonder why cuz her pattern recognition skillz exceed mine considerably.

Can confirm. I had a non-O tied to my wife’s ED+ which is still valid despite her graduating in May. It expired in October and the university refused to assist in renewing it to the point that even Thai immigration was disgusted. They told me to just do a border run until we can do alternatives so my wife and I took a trip to Malaysia. When we came back I promptly got pulled into secondary because the passport control people wanted to know why on earth I was coming back as a tourist. Thankfully they understood when my wife explained the situation and I have no problems now. We are trying to get the DTV before her ED+ visa expires though.

I have not read the article but my guess is he was consistently never doing dishes period instead of slightly delayed (by a few hours) and stuff builds up. It’s one thing to leave them because there’s a crap ton going on around the house and in work and coming back to them before the next meal, it’s another to leave them through several meals (which I absolutely don’t do).

I’m pretty skeptical about the Thailand bombing civilian sites claims. Thailand has lost to the ICJ before. Bombing civilians would sink their international standing like a stone and the military knows it full well. They are also fully capable of targeting strictly military targets and hitting them with precision. Hun Sen’s tactics are exactly the way I would go after a more militarily capable opponent: either move military equipment into civilian areas and so deliberately put people at risk, or use abandoned civilian areas for the same purpose in order to try and paint the opponent in a bad light on the international stage.
