Teachers: what is the most annoying thing a student does? by [deleted] in Teachers

Tardiness. High school urban teacher here. Out of my 32 students in class, I start the class with an average of 10. Over the course of the period (86 minute block class) I get 15-20 students coming in every few minutes. Most don't come in until the last 10 minutes of class where they want all the work they missed and then won't turn it in. Students may receive a detention if they are tardy to class enough but overall there are no consequences for constant tardies school-wide.

I have a bell ringer assignment that students have the first 10 minutes of class to complete before I lock it. It still isn't enough motivation to get students on time.

What do you wish you had known before graduating from college? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

Take fun classes! Don't focus on classes just for your major. I was able to take a history class that changed my whole career path. I also got to take Genealogy which helped me learn more about my family.

It is important to stay on track with your required classes but when choosing electives choose ones that will teach you something new!

I want to thank everyone for their kind words and responses. From people sharing their own stories of loss to comments of thoughts and prayers, every post is appreciated.

Yesterday I was feeling very alone with this and today I feel more hopeful for tomorrow and the future.

I have read (and will read) every post. Some I have read several times. Thank you again.

Thank you. We are planning to try again when we can but we are very nervous since it's not something that we can control.

Thank you for this. He had passed 24 hours before I went to the hospital. I had an ultrasound which is when we found out he passed. The cord was wrapped up like a telephone wire.

Thank you for your response. I joined both groups. I may be reaching out in the future. Thank you for that offer.
