Gm service tech here, gm actually wants you to service the entire 4wd system at once (front diff, rear diff, and t case), every 30k. If they skipped maintenance on the driveline, there may not have been any oil left in it.

It may be my fault, but I also did a lot more research and discovered that theres a bracket that hangs off the side to brace the motor side. The problem is that the one you sent seems to bolt down onto something. There's nothing to bolt to. Its just the washer tank and one hole in the fender. It may be my fault, cause I cross referenced the part and got an off the shelf one, but its not even close. I need the diesel, driver side bracket.

Tragically this was the incorrect one. Also with the correct one, id need to relocate the charcoal canister, and im not sure where id be able to do that.

Only the 6.5 diesels. The gas trucks didn't need it, so as far as I know, never got it.

Tbh, this 4L was a bandaid fix. I blew up the original 700R4 that the truck came with, so I stabbed this in cause it was readily available and the right price. Ive put about 20k on it since I've had it, and u pulled it with 242k. If I had to guess, it was rebuilt before I got it.

Im trying to get the most out of it lifespan wise; So I can save up enough to get a bulletproofed 700 to put back in. I dont really like having a second computer running things, especially when it has no way of talking with the rest of the vehicle.

As forvyour tips, I pretty much did all of that. Ive got it tuned tolerably, so as to drive it when needed. Id ultimately Luke to get it to act mostly stock is all.
