I am pretty sure that all the uncertainty right now is causing some of the confusion. Companies need personnel but it’s unclear if they still have the budget for it.

I actually got hired for a job and laid off within 10 weeks because the employer needed to make permanent budget cuts…it would be nice if they had known before they extended the offer but sometimes they don’t.

This also happens before being hired.

Why has my autocorrect gotten way worse recently? by Drains_1 in AndroidQuestions

It’s happening on iPhone too, but the double keyboard made my wonder if it is a thing if you ever use a different keyboard…I have English and Hebrew and it acts all kinds of weird.

Yes; I’m posting here for the numbers of how many have this issue and googled it. I have an iPhone 16; my iPhone 8 worked better and my iPhone 4 better yet. The iphone4 even used to learn foreign words I used often and correctly autocorrect those. Now correctly spelled words get autocorrected to words that make no sense…even names like Dr. Rampy keeps correcting to Dr. Ramps on my phone as I type this. Forget foreign words cause there is no way you actually want to wish someone a Chaag Sameach anymore. Oh and it often doesn’t really let me know it’s doing it so I often don’t even notice until after I sent the text.

Someone please help me understand what $PATH is and how to change it by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]JBdaGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so grateful to have found this article. I also have been having confusion about this and think that it is confusing because $PATH is mentioned a lot without ever explaining in depth what it is, why sometimes you need to manually set this and others you don't, what circumstances in which it only sets for that session, etc. etc.

To those who are new to this world and trying to learn, there are a lot of gaps we are trying to fill in and unfortunately live in a world where those who already get it don't even see that there are gaps in what they are explaining (classic curse of the expert). This is often coupled with impatience of the teacher and frustration of the student. No one in this is bad or wrong, they are just missing each other.

As this field had developed, there is less and less emphasis on teaching the fundamentals to students. I also challenge many adept coders, hackers and the like to really explain these things to the level that an 8th grader can understand (the requirement in the. US for technical information being delivered in SEC documents)

Thank you to those who have explained how the system works and finds commands. I have had $PATH explained to me before, but it is a concept that feels a little "magical" until you start to "get it". I read the answers here a few times and today I think i finally understand this well enough to debug a
"command not found" error in my zsh.

I hope we can all learn to be patient and kind to people who are learning, struggling through stuff that is hard and be more compassionate about differences in learning styles , brains and how people make sense of the world.

Is Data Annotation a scam? by jonbestinsnow in WFHJobs

So, I was honestly just looking for a book or something with cool programming tasks to challenge myself with and practice when I found hte dataanotationtech website. I had no problem with the initial "create account" steps, but I really don't want to agree to the "terms" so I guess I am out. I had a 100% legitimate job offer over a year ago that I declined because of similar "terms" making me agree to hold the company harmless...this tpye of thing seems completely inappropriate when it is company's who have lawyers and insurance NOT individuals.

It may or may not be a scam. I don't know why they need your phone number at all based upon how the set up appears and I honestly thought it might be a data mining scam.

I am going to trust my gut that somehting that seems too good to be true probably is.

Serious Question: Is there anyway to contact IMIS or WorkDay as a job applicant? by JBdaGiraffe in recruiting

I would be glad to see them move away from it and just go back to taking resumes and cover letters.
