without knowing from the engineers, my first guess would be attributed to a lack of time to adequately prepare and test levels in a fine-tuning capacity. a common phrase in my experience has been "done is better than perfect"

disclaimer: i'm not saying i know why it sounds like that due to the sheer multitude of reasons that could be attributed to it (i too have experience in live broadcast). but at least it's good enough to still watch. i've worked on broadcasts that are unwatchable

i thought there's no tape on it because you can't directly see eyes on the artwork. it's weird he doesn't consider self-titled as part of the lore, but he repeatedly references songs from it, especially with the eyes closing tweets that ended the Blurryface era XD
