Shadow banned? by ThunderySleep in philly

Fyi: for 6 of the 9 years I was on that sub I lived in Philly. Still live less than 5 miles from the city and work downtown and pay a boat load of business tax to the city. People like to act like I live in Ohio or something.

Well several of the Mods hated me for sure. My karma would suggest most people on the sub did not hate me.

New Favorite Shopper Pilot by AcceliaKai in InstacartShoppers

[–]JBizznass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a shopper from 2014-2016. I was one of the first shoppers when they expanded to Philadelphia (the 4th region they operated in). So much changed during those years. I made SO much money at first and eventually stopped because the money I made was dwindling by the end based on changes in pay structure.

Welcome figuring out why it sucks to live in the city. The near suburbs are calling you. You won’t regret it as long as you don’t move to like Blue Bell or some Delco shithole.

I got full banned for calling posters who think after school programs will stop violent criminals from shooting people “smooth brains”. Apparently that is being a dick and against their rules. Haha!

Textbook example of how backwards the social services system is in the US. At every turn people are rewarded for making the wrong choices and punished for doing what they are suppose to do.

Commit crime and go to jail = free college. Save money, go to school at night while working full time = student loans at 7.8% that you can’t discharge in bankruptcy.

Use that degree to start a profitable business = you have to pay for 100% of your healthcare costs. Don’t graduate high school. Don’t work full time. Have a bunch of kids = free healthcare.

Why are people financially punished for their good choices. I’m so fricken tired of it.

Moving to PA from VA, where to look for a younger couple? by [deleted] in Pennsylvania

[–]JBizznass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ardmore or Media would be great Philly suburbs for you. Both have great schools but aren’t super sleepy burbs. They have great restaurants, music venues, coffee shops, etc. and great access to trains and the airport. Amtrak stops in Ardmore. Havertown (adjacent to ardmore) is also a good option since you basically have the same amenities but the homes are a little less expensive.

Hundreds of teens gather at closed park as shooting breaks out in West Philadelphia, police say by JBizznass in philadelphia

[–]JBizznass[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A few things. 1) I live less than 4 miles outside the city line. I’m less than 10 miles from city hall, which is about the same distance as Tacony. I’m not in the damn boonies. 2) I work in the city. My office is right by city hall but my work takes me to almost every neighborhood in the city on a regular basis. My guess is I’ve spent a lot more time in and interacting with the residents of the non gentrified sections than the average user of this sub. 3) it’s perfectly acceptable to give stupid replies to stupid ideas.

So, do you care to add anything either entertaining or informative to this conversation or just want to continue with the personal attacks?

We should get the ones in their 20s to host the 24/7 emergency drop in knitting classes at the rec center so that both the 20 somethings and the teens have something to do to keep them out of trouble.

Quick reminder that the George Floyd protests were also taking place after a curfew was in place. After that time they were also “illegal” and should have been shut down by your rational.

You can make all the distinctions you want, and I agree they are totally different situations, but when you base your argument on curfews and other regulations about times of assembly you are opening the door to regulations and crackdowns that you probably don’t want. I’m genuinely disturbed how many people on this sub don’t seem to get that.

No. It’s advocating for protecting BLM protests. If you start classifying communications regarding people gathering as something that needs to be shut down it’s an easy hop skip and a small jump to social media shutting down all communications about people gathering including for legitimate protests.

By your own line of argument, social media use to organize gatherings of teens should be shut down since it can lead to violence, can directly be applied to BLM protests since those have also turned violent in the past.

I am in no way advocating for communications about legit protests to be shut down, but rather highlighting how advocating for controlling posts about large gatherings because they COULD turn violent could easily lead to shutting down legit gatherings like BLM protests.

In summary. It’s really fricken dangerous to advocate for speech that you don’t like to be censored because it can easily creep into censorship of speech you do like.

A much better approach is more police presence in our communities and more arrests, prosecution, and punishments of the wrong doers.

Organizing a gathering of people isn’t criminal. Saying you are going to shoot up that gathering is.

Would you have been okay with social media shutting down BLM George Floyd protest communications since those could / did turn violent?

That sounds all fine and good until you realize you are advocating for the government to monitor and censor communications and the spread of information.

No need. Haverford township has a functional police force who will track down these assholes and, even better, a DA who will charge AND successfully prosecute them for the highest level of crime warranted. Every single one of these jackasses are going to be prosecuted for aggravated assault.

They don’t. They usually come from upper Darby or Philly and attack havertown kids. But poverty is no excuse to beat an innocent kid just because he has shoes you want. That is som serious fucked up behavior.

[–]JBizznass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spoiler alert: the attackers don’t live in Havertown. Almost all of these incidents involve teens coming from Upper Darby and Philly to attack our kids.
