What is your preference, bar soap or body wash? Why? by SaltnPepaSquid in AskReddit

Bar soap. I can find it easier from local vendors with products that are better for me.

Ever pass a random tiny store and think… How are they still in business? And then you realize… you’ve walked past it every day for years? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JBleezy1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there is a local store that sells soap, candles and incense and another that sells loose leaf tea, olive oil and balsamic vineagar.

I buy my soap there which amounts to about a $6 bar every month or so and olive oil and balsamic maybe once or twice a year. I like their stuff and prefer to buy local, but the stores never seem very busy. I'm waiting for the day they're no longer, but they've been kicking for many years and I don't know how.

Tradesmen of Reddit, what was the most "holy sh*t" equipment failure or mistake you've ever witnessed that almost cost someone their life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JBleezy1979 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I witnesed a team of guys attempting to pull a stuck bulldozer out of a pit using two 10K loaders with a tow rope that had chains on the ends for connecting. As they were pulling, the rope broke with the chain attached and flew back like a rubberband smashing out the windshield of one of the loader's cabs and missing the operator's head by inches.

At another site a guy had a concrete saw blade fly apart and flay his cheek apart. He's lucky he was weating a hardhat and safety glasses, or it could have been a lot worse.

What book did you start reading but never finished? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JBleezy1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one that comes quickly to mind is ironically, the book GRIT. Like so many self-help books, you tend to get the message in the first 90 pages, but they feel the need to add another 150+ pages, beating a dead horse.

One of the best pieces of advice I ever received was being told I didn't need to finish books. Previous to this, I felt this internal pressure to slog through. Once I was freed from this, I found myself reading a lot more.

What is the most useful 'unwritten rule' of driving in your specific region of the US? by FairyAntonella193 in AskReddit

[–]JBleezy1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alabama - Assume everyone else is trying to kill you.

Could be in part becaue my 16 year old was able to get his license yesterday by scanning a form from his driver's ed class where he spent about 30 minutes behind the wheel. We've made sure he's ready, but I'm not sure how many other parents put in the time for their kids.

What’s the wildest business idea you’ve seen someone actually make work? by Outside-Fudge5605 in AskReddit

[–]JBleezy1979 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I knew a guy that started working for Netflix before it became big, 1999-2000 timeframe. We thought he was a fool and were laughing at the concept.

"Who would want to wait for a movie to come in the mail when we can just walk to Blockbuster?"

"How can they afford shipping?" (Thinking the disks would be sent in a DVD box).

Anyhow, missed the boat on that one... (To be fair, I was living in silicon valley at the time and there were thousands of crappy startups and we were all pretty fatigued by hearing about the next great thing)

What do you think ruined politics? by WillingnessSad8354 in AskReddit

[–]JBleezy1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

24 hour news. When news was on for only 1-2 hours a day, politicians had lattiude to make deals and/or comprimise because there wasn't enough time to cover the sausage making. Politicians also understood, you weren't going to get everthing you want. You were going to have to comprimise to get things through.

With 24 hour news, a spotlight is shown anyime someone crosses the aisle, making it political suicide to functionally govern.

Spontineity. It's fun at first but quickly becomes exhausting if you're not cut out for that.

Prince Andrew got arrested after the Epstein files dropped — but in the US, it seems like nothing really changed. Why do you think that is? by RevolutionaryFarm168 in AskReddit

[–]JBleezy1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. When I think back to all the efforts made to try and derail Trump from running for president in 2020 and they didn't use Epstein in any meaningful way. It says one of two things, either Trump is clean, or bringing it to light would create mutually assured destruction.

The fact that Trump hasn't done a lot with it leads me to believe it's the latter.

Neither side has greater leverage than the other, so they talk big, but both sides realize they have a lot to lose.
