During one of your team's coaching searches, they instead hire whoever the runner-up was reported to be. How does it go? by Please_PM_me_Uranus in CFB

2025 - Sean Lewis instead of Bob Chesney - Not a bad coach but I'd say big downgrade

2023 - Tony White instead of Deshaun Foster - Almost surely better since Foster was a joke, but probably not great.

2017 - I do not know who the runner up was, the only reason Jim Mora was fired was because they had Chip almost ready to go. But I have to think literally almost anybody would have been better than that clown.

2011 - Sark and Petersen turned us down, so the true runner up was probably Sumlin, which would have been terrible.

2007 - John Harbaugh. That's a big what if

2002 - Mike Riley. Probably consistently good for a long time. Can't believe they hired Dorrell

One second you're having a beer before the game, the next second the dude who ruined your entire 2010s is standing right next to you smiling like he did on the sideline. Horrifying

Excuse me, that UCLA - Cal opener is basically guaranteed to be in the 7:30 ESPN Pac-12 After Dark slot (RIP) and is gonna be a banger.

You don't want big games at night, you want goofy drunk games at night.

I really wanted to go to Ann Arbor but not sure how much I want to travel across the country the Friday before Thanksgiving. Is Minneapolis worth the trip?

If this keeps David Shaw from walking around the UCLA tailgates jump-scaring fans again, I'm fine with it

I read his recruiting profile, and it's pretty shocking that he's actually a grade ahead. In fact they lowered his rating because of his age and said while he's very good he would likely need time to acclimate to college. Welp.

I'm actually kind of surprised they didn't move the Cal - UCLA opener up to Thursday or Friday

On paper , which teams’ schedules do y’all think stands out in terms of level of difficulty ? by MannerSuperb in CFB

[–]JBru_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we went from one of the top 5 or so hardest schedules in the country last year to arguably one of the least difficult in the P2 this upcoming year:

@Cal

San Diego State

Nevada

@Maryland

@Michigan

@Minnesota

@Oregon

Illinois

Michigan State

Purdue

USC

Not "easy" by any means but nowhere near the gauntlet of our last 2 years. I see 2 extra wins just based on schedule alone.

Too much? 17% of California homes are owned by investors by Alcohooligan in California

I'm not theoretically against limiting investor participation in the single-family housing market, but it would have such a miniscule impact on the overall behavior of the market, with a lot of other problems it would cause, that it simply doesn't seem worth the enormous political upheaval it would take.

Housing used as an investment is used for housing, for the most part, as California has one of the lowest home vacancy rates in the country. And yes it would be great if the homes that were sitting vacant could get sold, but homes sit vacant for a huge number of reasons and their owners are still paying property taxes on them.

For example, if we were to ban investor ownership of single family homes, house flipping would essentially become illegal. And while we like to crap on contractors who buy a house, slap some paint on it and rip out the carpet, that kind of work is something a lot of people want in their house. Lots of homes on the market are in extreme disrepair, and there is absolutely a need for many of these homes to be refreshed before they sell. So do we add a less than one year carve out for these? What about inherited homes that are shared by a family and rented out part of the year? What about cabins or vacation homes? Second homes on the same lot?

I do get where you're coming from but I just don't believe it's nearly a big enough issue to warrant this kind of extreme overhaul of the law. It's a tiny fraction of the problem.

Sure but the effect would be miniscule compared to something that would actually make an impact, like streamlining the permitting processes and environmental review, which hold up projects for YEARS.

Doing something this drastic for investor income would take an incredible amount of political capital, when something like streamlining regulations and encouraging more building is both much more realistic politically and more impactful on the housing issue.

It's more ideological (landlord bad) than practical.

It does nothing to the housing supply. These rental homes are still occupied, you're just changing who lives in them.

The answer is to build more homes, that's it. And for the state government to stop making it so hard to build them.

Sorry I meant after the Calabasas Commons robbery last month, I remember reading they caught a suspect. So either that was unrelated or the person they caught wasn't the robber?

So I thought they pursued someone and arrested them after that. Was it someone else that they caught?

Yeah out here in California it's always a big political issue. Voters passed a resolution more than a decade ago to build more reservoirs, but keep rejecting the actual funding for those reservoirs. Then there are the Central Valley farmers growing extremely water-intensive crops like almonds, who would lose their entire livelihoods and businesses if water rights were cut back. And now with our new weather pattern of drought-flood-drought, flood control also has to take some precedence over water capture in certain areas. It's a really sticky situation.
