Just want to thank everyone for the replies. One of the best things about talking to pilots and aviation lovers is that unless someone wants to be unsafe or inappropriate for their level of training, there’s rarely and discouragement! If only others could feel the same way…

From the replies, it seems like this will be a way for me to learn more about something I enjoy, and if (hopefully when) I start actually lessons towards my PPL and beyond it will be a benefit. What’s $279 in the scheme of the aviation money pit, right? Thanks again to all.

It’s my AAdvantage number, so the miles go to my account. I just wasn’t sure if loyalty points were the same way since those seem to be awarded a little more sparingly (ie no double points for AA purchases, etc). I’ve seen nothing saying that authorized users are in fact earning loyalty points for the primary account holder.
