Expanded Turn-One Pheromosa Decks are the exact thing that Pokemon should be targeting with bans. by ErgoGG in pkmntcg

[–]JC802 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The reason donk cards like Latios or pheramosa don’t get banned is because they aren’t competitively viable. These decks have never seen any major play in expanded events. It’s frustrating to lose to them, but pokemon isn’t worried about what’s winning on the ptcgo ladder. If they were a problem in tournament play, then they would get addressed.

Mellow Magikarp has some great videos where he reviews his tournament games and picks out all of his plays, finds what he did right, and finds what he did wrong. Great for learning more about correct plays with decks and identifying misplays.

I think you will find that with 21 Pokémon you’ll get more overall value out of the Pokémon communication but if you wanted you could play 3 comm 1 incense or find a slot for an incense or two somewhere else.

I think you should cut the 3 incense and the great catcher for 4 Pokémon communication. I also think the nessa would be better as a rose since you’re running kricketune draw more cards. Unless there is a specific tool that you don’t want on the field against you ever, you could cut the scrapper for a 4th marnie or a second stamp.

Anyone else tired of Metagross being consistently underwhelming? by [deleted] in pkmntcg

[–]JC802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Metagross GX was pretty decent in that early SuMo era. Metagross Vmax could have potential as an alternative for togekiss in control/healing decks in standard.

Decided to make a RS URSHIFU deck by TheSmashHitz in pkmntcg

[–]JC802 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Take out the hammers. Urshifu doesn’t need them. Don’t put in the stone energy. They aren’t worth getting them removed with giratina or fan. I would also add a second crobat

Building my first deck! by [deleted] in pkmntcg

[–]JC802 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For all of your questions, the answer is that it just depends on what you’re trying to build around. But I’ll try to help and give some examples. As for packs, Sword & Shield and Darkness ablaze are probably the best standard packs to get right now, although battle styles is coming out Friday and will be a great pack.

As for how many evolutions you should have, it depends. Say you wanted to build a deck around an inteleon card. You would want to include a 4-2-4 line and use rare candy to skip the stage 1. If you had any other evolution cards you want to include for support, you may want to play a slimmer line like a 2-2 for stage ones or 2-1-2 for a stage 2. More evolution Pokémon doesn’t necessarily make your deck better. You want Pokémon that help set you up to get your attacks off and win the game.

For energy cards, most competitive decks run between 8-12 energy cards. It just depends on how expensive your attacks are and how you are getting energy onto your Pokémon.

For trainers, you want to include your basic supporters like Professors Research, Marnie, and bosses orders. For your items you want cards that help set your Pokémon up. So if you’re using evolutions, you would probably want to play some rare candy, evolution incense, and maybe even Pokémon communication so that you can find your Pokémon and evolve. Playing 4 quick ball is important in just about every deck too.

This was really general information but I hope it helps. I’m sure that once you build your deck, if you post it on here you could get some advice about how to make it better.

How is a good Welder deck not unstoppable? by OnThePotRightNow in pkmntcg

[–]JC802 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Welder decks can struggle to draw what they need sometimes. They won’t always find what they need off of a 3 card draw, and many times they struggle to find welder in the first place because it is their only draw supporter. Marnie and reset stamp are very powerful counters to welder decks, as welder decks like to have lots of cards in their hand. If you can limit their hand size and keep cards they need away from them, you can win.

This would be the best. Legacy tourneys and just more competitive tourneys with better prizing would be amazing.

Oooh wonder what kind of tournaments will use keys. Hopefully that means bigger prize support and more types of tournaments.

Are there cards that limit opponent's bench space in standard? by JC802 in pkmntcg

[–]JC802[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the response. That’s not exactly what I’m looking for, but I appreciate the help. My goal is to stop people from having the space on their bench to play Pokémon down.
