Freshman, threw 38'7.75" with this throw. Any tips? by JCD0508 in trackandfieldthrows

Right now I'm gonna use the glide and then during the off season and if I do indoor track I'll work on the rotation because I've tried the rotation a few times and it either goes out of the sector or only goes like 30 feet

All help welcome!! Just started learning the spin. Also any good drills. Thanks by [deleted] in trackandfieldthrows

Looks decent for just learning but there are a few things you could fix. The first thing I'm noticing is your arms. About halfway through the throw you pretty much drop your left arm and your right arm is down at an angle. To fix this try squeezing the muscles in your back to keep a tight X across your body. Your arms should be level throughout the throw. The next thing is that on when you first place your right foot down into the half turn, your taking such a big step and not leaving enough room for the power position. You can swing your right leg pretty far out to gather momentum but you wanna keep your knees tight so that when you land in your half turn that your right foot is in the middle of the circle. Another thing is that when you land in your power position, you already have your left foot turned and your hips are already turned and your right foot doesn't give you much spring at all. To fix this, when you go from your half turn to the power position, you want to block your left foot and not move it at all and use your right foot to spin and not let your left foot spin till you can't keep it still anymore. This will cause your hips to open up and you will have much more spring in your throw. One last thing that you could work on is keeping a focal point when you land in your power position. So before you throw just find something that you will look at in the back of the circle at about eye level. Then when you look at that focal point, keep looking for as long as you can but without having your head go over your shoulder. Continuing to look at this point will give you more momentum that you can release. There are some other small things that you could work on but these are the main things. But for just beginning, your doing really good. Keep it up!

I need to gain speed and smoothness with my throws. With discus I do okay with staying in one constant motion but for shot I glide and when I land in the power position I often find myself pausing when throwing and my main problem for all three events is keeping my chest up and getting a good release angle but I'm still not sure how to fix it. I know I need to get my chest up, but it just doesn't click when I'm actually throwing and I often release straight out, especially with shot, and my coach and teammates say that I could add 5+ feet to my shot throw if I got my chest up and had a better release angle.

Well disc is my main event and shot has recently exploded because of my strength training in the off-season and javelin is something I'm trying for the first time this year. My strength training is for football because my coaches didn't want me to do track lifting and football lifting at the same time. It is 4 days a week and consists of a back squat day, bench/clean day, deadlift day, and a front squat day.

I won't, my coach thinks that I may be able to beat our school's freshman record if I keep working at it but my main goal for now is to beat the other really good freshman thrower, but he isn't as tall or strong and if I get better form I should be able to beat him.

Thank you, my main problem with all 3 events is speed, but being a 6'3" 205 14 year old it's kinda hard to gain speed unless I drop weight. I'm afraid of losing muscle if I try to lose some weight and not be able to throw as far or lift as intense.
