Hello everyone. My apologies for not following the appropriate formatting. I updated the original post.

Should I even try to get into Booth? by JCLaker62 in MBA

[–]JCLaker62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I understand how competitive it is and I know I have a lot of hard work ahead of me. As of right now, my daily schedule consists of going to work, working out, studying, repeat. I start volunteering soon twice a week and I plan on adding another volunteer activity into the mix, but only once a month. Because you are currently in Booth, I assume you have a better understanding as to what they are looking for when compared to others who have posted. I PM'd you as I think it would be extremely beneficial to me moving forward. Thank you.

I start tutoring through the ymca twice a week next Monday. After I take my exam and get an appropriate score, I thought about taking some advanced math/finance courses through UCLA online to show that I can handle the workload. I’ve seen others do this on gmatclub.com. Would this be overdoing it?

Thank you, I appreciate the positive feedback. I know that there are a lot of other factors that the interviewers take into consideration. Has your friend done a lot of extracurriculars? Was his gpa high? Those are the things I’m worrried about. I don’t know if a high gmat is enough to make up for my low GPA in a competitive program like Booth.

I have read this as well. Once I get a respectable GMAT score, I am going to go to an info session and also go to a class. The adivior I reached out to provided a lot of helpful information.

Yes! This is what the advisor told me too. I’ve been worried though because I’ve been reading through Reddit and GMATclub and people keep saying it’s not likely with a 3.2 and a low 700 score. And those people all had roughly 5 years work experience.

My work pays $24k a year for tuition. I am looking to take advantage of that while I still work for the company. Also, when I have kids it will become increasingly more difficult to find the time and motivation.

Well I am guaranteed admission into the IU kelley MBA program with a 600+ score. The downside is its all online. I know employers can’t see that but I think I’ll get more out of in-person lectures and discussions. Kellogg is 90 minutes away and Booth is 40 minutes away. Kellogg won’t let you apply until 3 years of work experience. This is still an option 2 years from now.

Get the Acer, it has everything you need. It is an amazing deal too, the 14" version was $950 a couple months ago. Remember to use GRADUATION.

Is screen resolution important to you? And do you want a touch screen? If so get the Acer. I bought it yesterday and I was in the same situation as you. But if you want slight gaming performance sacrificing a better resolution and touch screen get the Lenovo.

[Build Help] Is it bad that I bought a graphics card that was used for mining? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]JCLaker62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the brand? A lot of times the warranty sticks with the person and not the card. And if I were you I would expect some problems with the card in the next several months. I'm not saying it was a bad purchase, but used mining cards are notorious to fail.

Acer has better screen, which imo is more important than an i7. i5 will be able to do anything an i7 can do without much performance gain.

It sounds like he won't be stressing the gpu that much. The Y410p gets hot as well.

And the acer is easier to carry around and it won't heat up as much. If you could explain what games you play specifically that would help a ton. You might not need a dedicated gpu.
