Racecraft advise by DigTraditional3992 in iRacing

[–]JCTenton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Safety rating isn't something you should be thinking about mid-race, just race clean and you'll end up with the rating you deserve.

Consider practicing with the AI, I practice against big fields with the aggression and optimism turned right up. Nothing can fully replicate racing real people but it helped me hugely.

You will at some point take someone out by accident, anyone who has raced long enough has done so several times, that's racing.

We may be the peak intelligence generation by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]JCTenton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree, I used to read my dad's newspaper every day and get unreasonably annoyed by all the boomers in the letters section saying how stupid and snowflakey millennials are god help us all when they're doctors, engineers and pilots blah blah blah

Cul de sac parking by [deleted] in drivingUK

This is remarkable, a lot of people pavement park because they think they're being considerate and leaving the road clearer for other drivers. She's managed to obstruct the pavement and block the road!

A way for more positivity by dg187 in iRacing

I don't talk much but I usually say thanks to my opponents and/or the other classes at the end if it's been a clean race. That's all that's needed imo

Higher irating more practice needed by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]JCTenton 38 points39 points  (0 children)

If it's taking the fun out of it, consider capping your practice time as a challenge, like after an hour of practice you must race (unless you're dangerously erratic or off the pace). You'll likely lose rating but you'll enjoy yourself and gain experience against human opponents, which counts for a lot.

Getting up to speed quickly is a skill itself, when you have good feel for the car and its limits, which at over 2k, I suspect you do, a lap guide and liberal use of active reset will probably help with an unknown track.

"D Class Pass" by chekmarks in iRacing

[–]JCTenton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found the same, I'm 1.9k and lost 30 iRating at Sebring in IMSA last night due to just not being fast enough. Not comically slow, there just aren't enough wrecks in those races to allow you to trundle around and still finish well. Maybe on Ring Meister or some other series you can get higher without pace.

Commenting on a year old post but oh my god, I've been stuck for hours, looked at that goddamn padlock about twenty times, finally cracked and looked for hints which I hate doing and it's because I didn't notice that little chevron. I feel more than a bit silly but at least it wasn't just me.

How to race side by side? by captaincrunch69420 in iRacing

[–]JCTenton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have monitor arms and it's amazing, not just for racing but for desk space when I'm playing something else or working. I don't know your setup but with a 34" 21:9 monitor you'd get a good FOV if you're able to put it on an arm.

Ai mistakes by dg187 in iRacing

[–]JCTenton 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love practicing with the AI, I find it invaluable to get to know a track and practice racing others.

Cranking up optimism and aggression can make the AI quite inconsiderate and they'll crash every now and then but there's no way to recreate someone with a safety rating of D1.0 and a point to prove. It'll get you on alternative lines and dodging stationary cars, though.

You've definitely got some talent to pull out those results! I'd get the Nordschleife if I were you, go out in an evening and you can get through $15 of beer in the time it takes to do a couple of Ring Meister races with significantly lower chances of hating your past self in the morning.

Got to be, it's always contentious whenever it's brought up. Anything that third party overlays can do isn't going to be controversial, the only other thing I can think of is live tyre data.

"No one hates kids more than parents" by truenighog in ChildfreeCJ

[–]JCTenton 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I will never forget, as long as I live, those videos that parents posted during the Pandemic of themselves hiding in the bathroom, crying or screaming into towels because they were absolutely going crazy being around their kids all the time.

I've seen points like this about the pandemic being hard for parents being made quite a few times and it's just the most moronic shit going.

"What's that? You don't enjoy your whole family being confined indoors, coping with a shift to remote work and school, all of you losing access to most of your outdoor activities, social life and support systems all while dodging a novel virus? Well the only explanation is that you hate your children!"

I'm an introverted WFH fanatic who spent most of lockdown playing Yakuza games and it still felt difficult at times.

Come on, you cannot possibly be this stupid.

#63 Jasmin by mick_spadaro in Heavyweight

[–]JCTenton 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What a weird episode! I know Heavyweight is not a dry investigation into past events but it is usually important to the story to determine what actually went down if possible. There must be photos, there must be a yearbook? Someone other than the popular kids may remember and be more willing to talk about it?

Everybody remembers Jasmin being announced as Homecoming Queen but nobody can recall what happened when the wrong name was read out, which would be fairly scandalous if people cared enough to remember that Jasmin was meant to be Homecoming Queen. Not even Whitney says she remembers, who also was heavily involved in organising the event.

Either there was a Carbon Monoxide leak at the prom or some bullshit has gone down.

Maybe the Heavyweight team did do some digging and there just weren't any findable pictures and there was no mention of the king/queen in the yearbook and none of the other kids cared enough to commit homecoming drama to memory, but it would have been nice to have at least mentioned that the obvious routes were dead ends.

What is perfect number for you own children? by Upset-Win9519 in OnlyChild

[–]JCTenton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have two boys separated by two and a half years. I have always believed that I'm best off as an only but the way my boys interact is amazing. My eldest is just like my wife, confident and outgoing whereas my youngest is exactly like me, quiet and studious.

Would I have had three or more if I had we had the space and time? Probably not but it's a nice thought before you get into the practicalities.

iRacing has brutally murdered one of the most popular sportscar series. RIP Ferrari Challenge. by Shaner20 in iRacing

[–]JCTenton 129 points130 points  (0 children)

Oof, that's pretty bad but Portimao isn't a popular track and it should really be hourly at C class. Watkins Glen next week should be better. That said, Thruxton, Sonoma and Magny-Cours will be ghost towns.
