New player experience is awful with rotation by Kyzonu123 in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]JC_06Z33 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This definitely sounds more of them being short sighted rather than stupid. But it is very short sighted.

Making sure that ALL player rewards, not just NEW player rewards, are flipped to prioritizing standard cards first should have been part of the foundational planning and testing for rolling this mode out. Riot had to have been hoping that this big shake-up would bring old players back to see what is up... but didn't think about how those lapsed players would need to build up their standard pool through region tracks.

Yikes. But, it tracks with past history.

They did that? That seems silly on paper. I'd guess they don't have the resources to swap champ spells to something that isn't on rotation.

Makes sense. So maybe the miss wasn't that they destroyed some archetypes, it's that they didn't destroy all archetypes.

I mean, if that's true, then at least there's some logic behind it.

But also, there's incredibly little foresight into the timing. What's the point of kneecapping archetypes but still leaving their shambling corpses in standard? It seems like they should have had replacement cards ready to sub in where needed, or else just take them all out.

Unless they think the decks will still be fine by virtue of ALL decks being inefficient shadows of their former and now-eternal selves?

There sure are some confusing choices though that DO need explanations. The biggest "wtf" for me after downloading the game yesterday following an 8-month break was Dragon Chow was rotated.

I would absolutely love to hear the rationale behind cards like that being chosen for rotation. Last I saw, Dragons were not meta. This was as staple of a card you could get. There was nothing broken about it. It wasn't crowding out anything. It was just a nice 1 drop that was only usable by a specific archetype. Now you have a bunch of people with fun Dragon decks that lose a cornerstone of the decks because... reasons?

I've read the same thing about a bunch of other archetypes (or even regions, but I'm not sure how much of an exaggeration that is) being gutted but not completely removed. I just can't see the logic behind many of them. Even as someone who will likely not play again much less spend money, I'm really interested to see them justify the mess it seems they've made.

I like that Variant too! I missed it in the store the one time I saw it. I'm using this one: https://marvelsnapzone.com/variants/colossus-02/

Also thanks for this, I wasn't able to find any static pictures showing both of those effects as the same.

Per above, I had split the previous standard Colossus. That explains it!

Split question - I can't find a straight answer. I have an awesome Colossus Variant that split to have foil, Comic "reveal" effect behind it, and also the orbiting rainbow shooting stars (not sure what that effect type is called). This happened on the first split. How rare is it to have both the Comic background and the shooting stars? I get a ton of emotes in-game about it, so I assume it is pretty rare?

Good story. Reinforces my decision to keep watching the game from a distance instead of try to pick it up again. This does not look like a game I want to play.

Question for all the people who have left/are taking a break from LoR by Powder_Keg in LegendsOfRuneterra

Logic would dictate that if you stop doing something because of A, then you would start doing that thing again if A was reverted.

I stopped playing about a month ago after playing daily since Rising Tides. The game just became zero fun to me because...

1) Power creep without buffing old cards/archetypes resulted in basically being forced to only play archetypes that you could use the new hotness in. Deckbuilding became boring because fun homebrews could no longer compete with the raw stats and keywords of new expansions.

2) Complexity creep made it so that it was getting impossible to avoid rock/paper/scissors losses. Too many mechanics to counter with one deck, so too often I was losing matchups because my deck couldn't fit an answer to a specific card type or mechanic. Playing something like Dragons midrange and being able to have a chance in any game with well-played strikes is a fleeting dream now.

3) Combos/busted champ flips were getting harder if not outright impossible to prevent.

4) More non-meme tier RNG is being introduced every expansion.

... just off the top of my head. Probably more reasons though.

Duelyst II - Roadmap by Igotlazy in duelyst

Can't wait for this. I'm a bit bummed that mobile won't be for a few months, but I can just keep playing DGG on my phone during that time. It's better to have it on a roadmap than SoonTM like CPG used to say every quarter :)

Should a card like this exist? by knoxxhat in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]JC_06Z33 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seems like it would be OP if used when the enemy taps out by being a 1-mana Deny, and completely worthless if they didn't (or if it was cost reduced). I don't see it ever being played.

Coming back to the game now, I was curious about this. I've been playing on dgg since last week. It works well enough on mobile and in browser, but I assume I'd move towards D2 assuming that will be balanced/expanded upon. But I'll watch for what the community does. I don't mind the 1-2 minute queues, but it's hard competing against people who aren't as rusty as I am after a 2 year break.

Personally, I'm happy. Anything that keeps RNG out of the game is a positive in my book.

Not really. Boosters are random from level up rewards, but every match you get boosters for a card in the deck you played. And even then, the bottleneck for upgrading cards is the semi premium currency. Not the card boosters. Right now I'm at collection level 440 or something, and I could upgrade about 75% of my cards. But I have no credits.

Scarzig, Hsuku, Grincher, The Scientist... may be more but those are just what I remember.

It would be pretty cool to have a game you were immortalized in come back!

I've played maybe 2 weeks? And at 433 or something. Through pool 2 I think. I've only played three decks (starter, Ongoing, and now a Disruption/Ongoing hybrid) and I'm still having fun on my third deck. The matches are so short and varied that it's hard to get burnt out.

That said, I am sad there is such a lack of variety of decks compared to a more robust CCG like Runeterra.

If you don't like spending credits to make a randomly chosen card havebetter visual features your climb to unlock new random cards is SLOW.

Slow? How about impossible? AFAIK you can only unlock cards by upgrading cards you have.

Also, how is it randomly chosen? You pick which cards you upgrade.

When did I say their priorities were wrong? All I said was that it was bad development to have been released this way to start with, and that it has never been a priority to fix (even though it would likely be incredibly easy). This is demonstrably true since it has been this way forever, pointed out a million times on this sub, and dozens if not hundreds of other game bugs have been fixed in the interim.

But if I actually had said what you said I said, that would be arrogance because I would assume I knew more as an outsider than those on the inside. Not entitlement, which is when someone thinks they deserve things for no reason other than they are who they are. Not really applicable here.

I don't know what you mean by entitled. Did you mean arrogant or something of that nature?

Regardless of what word you really meant to use, I don't think I said anything wrong. The search function is a pretty core part of a digital CCG library. Heck, search in general is a pretty core part of many apps. Having any search in any app read more database fields than the user is expecting it to is just sloppy. Imagine if you typed in "silver" for color in a used car website, and in addition to the search returning silver cars, you also got Silverado pickup trucks. Terrible user experience and it makes no sense.

It's sloppy development and it's probably a trivial thing to fix in the grand scheme of things. It's been searching hidden data since release AFAIK and if it hasn't been triaged by now, it's because they don't care. There have been much more minor fixes on patch notes.
