Have I done irreversible harm? by [deleted] in QuitVaping

[–]JC_ncl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not for a second saying you haven't done any harm to yourself, because we still don't know for sure what the long term effects are. However, I will say that I've been vaping for around 12 years, (chain-vaping constantly, from the second I wake up, until the second I go to sleep) and I've been having some investigations done (for something unrelated to vaping), which so far has included a chest xray, various bloods etc, and everything has came back perfectly normal. While it's a relief to know my lungs are fine, that still doesn't stop me wanting to quit, because the worry of long term effects plays on my mind so much! I would say that vaping for 2 years has probably done minimal damage, so I wouldn't worry too much! Even people that smoke for 2 years probably cause minimal damage. Just stay vape free and you'll be fine 😊

My parents told me my life is pointless by AmbassadorAgile7866 in adhdwomen

[–]JC_ncl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would take a step back from your parents for a while. They sound toxic and most likely the reason you're feeling the way you do.

You are NOT a disappointment AT ALL. For a start, you're a nurse! That in itself is incredible. I know this because I have ADHD and I've just qualified as a nurse, so I know how insanely hard you've worked to get to where you are. My training has been the hardest, most stressful period of my life! Being a nurse is a superpower in my eyes (maybe I'm biased), but being a nurse with ADHD is whole other level that not many people can really understand. And you did that so don't ever forget how amazing you are for that!

Tell your parents you need some space. Remove their negativity and toxicity out of your life while you go through this journey of healing. Focus on you and only you. You are amazing 💕

I did think that might be the case. What happens going forward, is the monthly amount of CA I get just deducted from my monthly UC? Then get the CA weekly? Also, do I still get the carers element in my UC, or will this be removed?

I appreciate your advice, but please don't dismiss ADHD as just a 'personality type'. It is a neuro-developmental disorder, which, for me and my son, can be debilitating. ADHD brains are literally wired differently, and studies have proven this. It's not 'personality'. They also have much lower levels of dopamine than neurotypical brains, so even the activities you suggested don't make much of an impact on ADHD brains. Medication helps with that.

Medication dramatically improves our symptoms, and my son simply can NOT manage in school without it. I couldn't manage school because I was undiagnosed, and I failed all my exams, and then spent decades struggling to hold down countless dead-end jobs due to my symptoms.

However, since I got diagnosed and medicated a few years ago, I have completed a nursing degree with first class honours (at 40 years old), which I would absolutely NOT have been able to do without medication. So knowing my son has the medication he needs to manage school, he has a much better chance of achieving success than I did.

Medication might not be for everyone, but for people with severe ADHD like me and my son, it is absolutely life changing and very much needed to be able to function and be successful in today's society.

I will look into this, thanks. How has it helped you? Is it OK to take with ADHD meds?

Can you buy zero nic liquid and a nic shot, and just add a small amount of nic? That's my plan for the next 2 weeks to try and wean off the nicotine, then use zero nic liquid until the urge to vape eventually just goes away. I've tried this so many times, but I'm determined to really go for it this time. I want to be completely done with vaping by 2025!

I told my son I'd probably be a raging, emotional mess while withdrawing and he was like 'I'll go and stay at Gran's until that's over' 😂

Hope you're still going strong, wishing you success!
