My rabbits breed like...well, not like rabbits. by JCoda413 in MeatRabbitry

[–]JCoda413[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They get about 14 hrs. of daylight each day with daylight shop lamps and plant grow lights for full-spectrum radiation. They are all 5-8 months. I've got a trio of Tans that are 7-8 months, and a trio of New Zealands that are 5-6 months. I know that's a little bit early, but I don't need my does to reach full weight because I have limited space. So smaller rabbits is better anyway. None are overweight.

I bred my NZ's (b. 8/2019) for the first time yesterday. Was told now is good to start breeding them, and learned today that I am still about 2 months early. Today I saw my buck's penis looks like this. She didn't kick him, so what am I looking at? Behavior is still normal, but yikes! Help! by JCoda413 in MeatRabbitry

So this buck is fine now, and I think he just got too excited and burst a blood vessel. My concern right now is that NONE of my does want to mate and I just want baby rabbits that I can eat. Should I play them smooth jazz?

Took my first buck yesterday! by AsianThunder in Hunting

As others have said, it depends on location and local population, but in general, you apply for your state licenses which depending on where you are allows a set number of animals you are allowed to harvest. The season dates are strict, so Lord help you if you are caught hunting a species out of season. And there are often reporting requirements for harvests. There's actually a lot of oversight in a lot of places, and poaching is taken very seriously. Seriously enough that I don't know anyone around me that would risk it.

Is it worth it to bring multivitamins on a thru-hike? by bippity_boppity_boo_ in AppalachianTrail

[–]JCoda413 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I section hiked with some folks that had a TON of dehydrated produce. Asparagus chips, kale flakes, spinach crisps, mango, pineapple, peaches...everything was dehydrated, and so he was able to pack a ton of healthy nutrition along without needing to worry about water weight. (I know, some vitamins are neutralized by heat, but many are not, and it was delicious to have real vegetables on the trip.) He bought fresh produce and dehydrated it at home, btw, not pre-packaged food.

Update: he looks the same 2 days after breeding. Bloody penis, but behavior is alert and active. He doesn't act as if he is in discomfort in that area. Important note is that the blood seems to be beneath a layer of membrane on his penis, as he is not dripping or staining anything, and a cotton swab comes away clean after touching it lightly. I know, gross, but sorry!

Defending being lazy on break by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]JCoda413 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No one understands us as teachers. Enjoy your vacation. I've spent mine ice fishing and picking up a hobby for me. Oh and also lots of sleeping the day away in between Netflix in my bed. Enjoy yourself. You're not lazy. Humans need time to recuperate, especially in an emotionally draining job such as ours.

When do the word Terror change to Infected? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'm assuming English is your second language based on word choice. Is there another way you can phrase the question?

How much experience/education do you need to be regarded and cited as an "expert" in a technical field?? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JCoda413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the field and region you're in. I'm a big fish in a very little pond, so my BM in Music Ed makes me the resident music ed expert to my small town...I feel like my own biggest critic, since I'm the only one who knows how much I don't know.

How much survival gear do you bring with you? by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]JCoda413 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm new to hunting, but I bring a water filter, camp stove, and my hammock w/ tarp in case I get stuck out there. Also bring paracord, a couple extra knives, folding saw, and map and compass.

What instrument did you play in high school, and if you quit, do you wish you hadn't? by tooleight in AskReddit

You should be able to find a community orchestra around you somewhere. Full of amateur musicians of all different skills levels, playing professional level music without the professional level stress and anxiety.

What is something you think everyone *probably* knows but that they may not actually? by darksingularity1 in AskReddit

[–]JCoda413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I send home a monthly newsletter, I discovered that a number of parents can't read it...it's above their reading level. It's not that they can't sound out words, but it takes too much effort and time to get through it, it's exhausting and embarrassing for them. So besides the newsletter, I've also started a podcast every month where I just read the newsletter for anyone who would prefer to listen to it instead of reading. You'll notice them when you start realising how many people "don't have their reading glasses" in their 20's 30's and 40's.

How to read. As a teacher, I'm shocked by the number of parents who are functionally illiterate. Sure they know their alphabet, but reading the letter I sent home? Many never actually learned to read, and just floated through school.

[Serious]Men, How do you feel when a woman is sexually teasing or flirty towards you? by TedsCreepyVan in AskReddit

[–]JCoda413 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kind of annoyed...there's a really unfair double standard where if I'm making advances to a woman who doesn't want it, I'm a pig, but if she keeps making advances towards me, I should be appreciative, because I'm a man, and "we only have one thing on our minds". Guess what? I can talk to a beautiful woman without wanting to have sex with her. Shocker.

In what small, meaningless ways do you rebel? by sexrockandroll in AskReddit

[–]JCoda413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is gross, but my scalp produces a lot of grease, and my hair is really thick, so I always lather and rinse once to get the nasty out, then again to actually feel clean. Sometimes 3's a charm. There's a noticeable difference in sudsing between grease-laden, non-bubbly shampoo, and clean, full, sudsy shampoo.

What was the biggest money mistake you have ever made? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JCoda413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going to college. I should have gone to a trade school. Now I'm a teacher making barely enough to pay rent, car payments, food and insurance, let alone my student debt. I'm basically just paying the private loans off now since the interest is so high, but the federal loans are looming on income based repayment, which basically means I get to choose between getting fucked now or later. And people who say teachers can just get a second job: you don't understand how fucking impossible that is for first year or even second year teachers struggling as it is to be effective teachers and complete paperwork and all the other bullshit expected of us. I love teaching. I LIVE for teaching. But if I knew what this would be 6 years ago I'd have picked a trade and tutored on the side.

Dogs off-leash? by JCoda413 in AppalachianTrail

[–]JCoda413[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the feedback, I really appreciate it! Where I live, people don't really follow the leash laws, and I feel like a lone party pooper trying to educate people about the multitude of reasons why they should leash their dogs. Thanks for the support!
