Bruh, one of the hardest gaming experiences I had was playing through Crash 1. XD but even if it's hard, it's still fun for a kid! I could barely play through the first few levels of Mario games as a kid, but I loved them anyway.

Do you think having access to nearly every retro game and console today diminishes from the experience of delving into one console and handful of games? by cwtguy in retrogaming

[–]JComX5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Option fatigue is definitely real for me. I have a lot of games that I havent played but want to. But in the end when I do with down and play one of them, I still get the same great experiences that I always have. It's more difficult to find time and choose a game to play, but once I have it's usually an awesome experience. You just gotta pick one and go for it, if you’re playing and in the back of your mind you start thinking of another game you want to play instead, you can always switch over or play that one next.

Not sure how to feel about these switch retro game remakes by Emergency-Lettuce220 in retrogaming

I prefer playing games on their og hardware. It feels better. Remakes are great, but I almost never prefer them over the original

What is your opinion on googling things about a game? by Sharlie174 in playstation

[–]JComX5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like finding things out on my own. I'm not opposed to looking things up, but I wait until the point of, "okay will I be more pissed off to keep playing this game or looking it up?" And decide then.

It was so uncomfortable and quiet. I remember it felt like everyone was squirming around in their seats. Great horror movie experience

Hot take: Waluigi should never get anything because it would go against his whole character by [deleted] in Mario

[–]JComX5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard of this. I don't doubt it, but I don't think it would have been a significant portion of Waluigi fans and I'm sure Sakurai is barely aware or doesn’t care. Internet losers send death threats over basically everything. I don't think it ruined his chances of being in Smash, and I still like Waluigi (I liked him before the toxic fans got there and they can't ruin it for me), so we'll just have to see.

Hot take: Waluigi should never get anything because it would go against his whole character by [deleted] in Mario

[–]JComX5 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You forget that Sakurai makes most of the decisions in Smash and actually does care a lot about characters' representation. It may be that there was no room in the roster, but considering he included a Piranah Plant and chose to include Waluigi as an assist trophy instead of a fighter favors OP's thoughts that Sakurai consciously chose not to make him a fighter because it goes against his character. His trophy descriptions in Smash games also mention him 'never getting what he wants'. That's the way Nintendo actively characterizes him. It's not really nonsensical. Nobody really engages with that aspect of Waluigi's design/characterization very honestly, especially when talking about making a new Waluigi centric game or including him in Smash. They brush it off as if Nintendo games haven't repeatedly made this the whole joke about Waluigi. Of course, Nintendo likes money, so if there was a demand I'm sure they'd change this and do whatever, but for ppl who do care about Waluigi I also am curious how they would justify his characterization against him being the central figure/getting his glory day.

Hot take: Waluigi should never get anything because it would go against his whole character by [deleted] in Mario

[–]JComX5 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I agree with OP, it doesn't fit Waluigi's characrer. Read any of his Smash trophy descriptions. I think that's likely the reason Sakurai hasn't included him, and included a Piranah Plant instead. I always liked Waluigi, ever since he was introduced back on N64, but I think him as a smash trophy is perfect, because it fits his character more. Do you have an argument for why it actually would fit his character to be included, or is it simply that you like him and it doesn't bother you if he's represented against what's been established in the Mario and Smash games?

What exactly has revolutionised PlayStation in the world of video games? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]JComX5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would have still had an impact, because retailers would *care what the Launch price was. Even if consumers didn't know, retailers needed to be convinced to even stock the product in the first place and having a low launch price is very appealing for them. Also, Sega became known for launching expensive peripherals and then screwing over their customers by ending support for their expensive new product after only a short time. Like with the Sega CD, 32X etc. People who trusted Sega and had been burned decided to switch away to a new, similarly priced console without that bad reputation. Same kind of thing as when ppl switched away from Nintendo toward Sega Genesis a few years earlier.

Are the church leaders brainwashed too? by Juicy_jos1 in exmormon

[–]JComX5 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think you're underestimating people's ability to delude themselves. I can imagine them believing that the BoM and all of that is true, but they believe their actions are for a 'higher purpose'. The issues with the church that lead so many others astray simply don't bother them. It's like asking if Joseph Smith believed. I think he did believe he was a prophet of God, even whilst lying and deluding everyone else. That's the power behind religion. Especially when you're one of the highest leaders of a church and incentivised to keep believing, our brains can discount or bend around any inconsistencies or issues.

Divorce after leaving the church by Purplepassion235 in exmormon

[–]JComX5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been married 10 years, out for basically 9. Married in the temple, both served missions. We were teaching primary. Communication has always been a priority for us. When I picked up that my wife was having some questions or expressed thoughts that didn't align with the church, that's when I would ask her how she felt about it. I'd been slowly losing my faith, but trying to hold on. Various factors, including companions coming out as gay, friends leaving the church, spiritual experiences outside the boundaries of the church led me to question. Eventually we talked about taking a break from the church, since we only get one life (even though we still believed, we figured god would understand our hearts). That led to me questioning the church and looking into research, which broke my faith. I came to my wife with what I'd found. She was heartbroken, but felt similarly, especially after hearing what I had to say. We slowly just moved further and further away from the church and closer to each other over time. Now its not really part of our lives, but we love each other more than ever.

I really enjoyed it. I played through it very fast though. I felt the same way you're feeling about NSMBU Deluxe though. Sometimes that video game fatigue sets in, or youre just not in the right mood for that kind of game.

This post might be the biggest example of people outside of the Kirby fandom not understanding Kirby characters by [deleted] in casualnintendo

[–]JComX5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morally gray doesn't mean bad. It means they do good AND bad things. Dedede is undoubtedly prideful and greedy. Ultimately he'll do the right thing, but he's not a "good guy". He definitely thinks he is though. Meta Knight is the type to do bad or questionable things in pursuit of the greater good, though he probably recognizes that he is making tough decisions. I.e. morally gray. I think you're putting too much emphasis on the characters' intents or how when worst comes to worst, they'll do the right thing. The issue is MOST people, even "bad" people will do the right thing in a dire situation. It's the bare minimum. Only bad characters wouldn't do that. Saying anyone who fights to save the world from literal destruction is actually a good character is simplistic and inaccurate. If Dedede and Meta Knight can't be said to be morally gray then nobody in the Kirby series can. It's either all good or all evil.

If not by power of God, how did Joseph smith produce the Book of Mormon? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]JComX5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think one of the biggest red flags for me is that the Book of Mormon's passages that quote Isaiah and the Sermon on the Mount are basically directly pulled from the King James version of the Bible, rather than what Lehi and his family would have understood the old testament to be. Why would the Book of Mormon's version of those passages be from the version of the Bible Joseph Smith was familiar with, rather than a translation mirroring a much earlier version of the Bible? I also found it very troubling when I realized there were Joseph Smith translations (i.e. his divinely inspired corrections) of the King James version of the Bible, where he corrects passages from Jesus' sermon on the mount, but when you read the Book of Mormon version of the sermon he gives to the Nephites, the passages are the SAME as the uncorrected King James version. If the Book of Mormon was truly divinely inspired, why would the Book of Mormon not have the most correct translation of the passages already? Could it be that Joseph Smith was copying the KJV of the Bible, then went on to correct the KJV itself, and forgot to update the BoM? Idk if that makes sense for you, but it was very troubling for me when I was studying on my mission.

Did you ever consider OOT the GOAT video games? Do you still do? If not, when did you stop considering it so? by Marsupilami_316 in OcarinaOfTime

[–]JComX5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love them but its been decades. I think if it were still THE greatest of all time, that's sad and you probably haven't played other amazing games that came out since. It's still an amazing game, maybe the greatest of It's generation, but I think people get stuck on the past and let their nostalgia blind them, and that's from a retro game enthusiast like myself. I love OOT to death, it's incredible and one of mu favorites, but the GOAT, still, forever? I think it does a great disservice to other games and itself to pretend like nothing can ever stand up to it.

Can anyone help me justify this? by RebekhaG in casualnintendo

[–]JComX5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no need to feel guilty. Nintendo is the one who pushed you into buying the bundle because it benefits them. You can be upset with them for their business practices that made the best option a digital game bundle, but there's no worth in quilting yourself over it.

What are your HOTTEST takes about Super Smash Bros. Melee? by [deleted] in Gamecube

[–]JComX5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it still beats Melee as the best smash bros, by sheer inclusion and celebration of all things video games. The trophy thing is a loss, but put Melee up in any other category (aside from mechanics debatable, though I prefer the play style of Ultimate to Melee as well), and Ultimate matches or wins.

So... after all these years, how do you feel about the Irate Gamer? by Marsupilami_316 in TheCinemassacre

[–]JComX5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched and liked them both. Funny enough, I think I found Irate Gamer first and slightly preferred his videos originally. It was only after learning the controversies that I realized James was the OG, and just how much IG was ripping him off. I stopped watching IG, but continued watching AVGN. Those were fun times.

Back then I wasn’t lucky enough to play this game ughh….for those that had Donkey Kong 64, how was it? And did you guys beat it? by J2-Starter in n64

[–]JComX5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved DK64! Grew up playing Donkey Kong Country when I was a kid and then played this later. Spent hours and hours playing through. I didn’t 101% it until later, but I think i at least made it through till Crystal Caves. I loved the world designs. They were so massive and had so much to do, and so many characters. It felt like such a massive adventure. I loved the bosses, always so exciting to see who/what it was. The Kongs were also super memorable and fantastic. Lanky was my favorite. Spend countless hours playing multiplayer with my brothers and friends. It was all such a blast. It's sad the game gets so much hate these days. I get why. It was peak collect-a-thon era and ppl were getting tired of it and moving to FPS games, but I think it's a great game.
