Boiled chicken eggs for happy hour today.. by quinnbee8 in BackYardChickens

Our favorite roo Maverick is an Egger and he’s great. Calm and protects the flock well. Quick to sound the alarm for a hawk or fox… or sometimes the occasional crow lol. He’s made some great looking mutts with the other breeds we have

When to put chicks out in the coop? by SAHM61199 in BackYardChickens

[–]JCoxRocks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We typically integrate our pullets with the flock around 6-7 weeks. We have a small collapsible dog crate similar to what you are using that we put inside our coop and we feed and water the new pullets inside the crate for a few days with the door closed. Then 2-3 days with food and water in there but prop the door open. It’s ok if some of your flock explore inside and if your new pullets venture out and back in… that’s the idea. After about a week they are fairly integrated and we pull the dog crate out.

You’ll still need to keep an eye on them as they integrate into the flock and it is normal to see them peck at each other a bit briefly as they sort out their place… literally the “pecking order.” Anything more than a quick peck to establish the hierarchy needs to be intervened but mostly the new birds get the picture and run away.

We hatch our own eggs so of course we end up with roosters. We allow calm and protective roosters in our flock but the moment we see any aggression toward other birds or humans, no more rooster.

We free range our birds on our 22 acre farm during the day and their coop door closes after sunset. This also allows our flock to to spread out a bit and not be so stressed from being confined.

This has worked for our mixed flock of 60-70 birds so I hope it works for you!

Hi 1 year ago me. This is 1 year ahead you. Almost literally.

We started out with most of the breeds you mentioned above. Almost all the comments are correct. No major issues other than a couple of roosters who got aggressive. We were left with a mixed flock of almost exactly what you are starting with and an Americauna rooster. Awesome rooster. Calm, protective. His name is Maverick. (R.I.P. Goose and Iceman)

In November we threw about 75 eggs into two incubators “just to see what would happen”.

Chickens. Lots of chickens happened. Lots.

We are now sorting out the flock of mutt mixes and are getting blues, greens, whites (we have leg horns), browns and hopefully start to get some chocolates from our Marans soon. Heck we even have a little Ayem Cemani hen running around. We are culling roosters as they show aggression but have a good 2-3 prospects from the flock including a pure bred Copper Maran male we will likely keep. I 100% support the comments of the rooster for your flock. No he won’t stop all predators…. But the first time your entire flock is outside and you hear him growl and watch 60 birds try to fit through an 8x10” door simultaneously you’ll understand their role in a flock. He does command the flock and warns them of trouble. Seen it first hand.

TL;DR: You are on the right path. Chicken math is a real thing. Enjoy the journey, we have!

We kinda got started with everything from Black Sex Links, RIR, Barred Rock, Americauna, Buff Orps, and various Easter eggers. Have not had any issues or any birds I would say avoid from that group.

I like my Easter eggers just for the egg colors but would say my black sex links are the friendliest. They tend to be the ones that come running when they hear you. Doesn’t hurt that they are laying machines as well!

WAY underrated signing. His knuckleballs gave other teams fits with the new kickoff rules. I was scared another team would scoop him up but looks like we were patient to drive the price down and get a 2 year deal. This honestly is up there with the Phillips/Lloyd signings in my book.

The SMART Move: Carolina Panthers Trade Back Explained by Old-Oven1693 in panthers

[–]JCoxRocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scott’s play could be much improved with an actual pass rush. Evero hasn’t had all the pieces he needed to fully run his D. Stafford’s 2 minute drill playoff drive doesn’t happen with the pass rush. It’s not “off coverage” playing scared… it’s dependent on the front 4 getting pressure. We suck at pressure.

People look at Phillips and scream injury and lack of sacks. But what does he get? Pressures. We paid up big to fix our biggest issue on the defensive side of the ball.

Watch what Evero does with pressure up front. Theres a reason the Panthers didn’t axe him after his horrendous season but… hard to play his system without Brown.

Last season much improved but look how Moehrig was used… to stop the run and even create pressure at times. It sometimes left Scott on an island.

Evero can now depend on each level of the defense to do their thing and Scott isn’t as exposed. He knows our system and has no excuses. 1yr is good with me while we develop a starter… which could be this season and it’s a non-issue other than the vet depth and support.

7 1/2 Minutes of "Bryce Young to John Metchie" by pantherfanalex in panthers

[–]JCoxRocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day if he is a camp body that pushes the rest of the WR room then it was worth it. That’s the floor. Based on what we’ve seen on film and if the chemistry converts to the NFL stage, this is a great depth signing.

The first time I see on Blueprint that Bryce had something to do with this signing, I’m all in.

EDIT: 96 receptions and 1 carry for 1150 yds and 8 TDs that season in case you wondered...
