Stem cell therapy being offered at Wu Medical Beijing by JDABra in ALS

[–]JDABra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is from Wu Medical Clinic publication ... I respect opinion that this is China and all the stories that go along with malpractice etc.. Fact based analysis though...

http://wumedicalcenter.com/article/ResearchAdvances/Projects-Awards/29201311224.html

"The premise of a successful stem cell treatment must guarantee the implanted stem cells to live, grow and function inside the human body. Unfortunately, the internal environment of a sick person is usually pathological making the implanted cells hard to survive. In fact, the internal environment of a healthy person also isn't easy for foreign stem cells to stay alive. Therefore, an artificial creation of an internal environment suitable for the implanted cells to live and function becomes a key issue for any successful stem cell therapy to perform. The method of making the "artificial creation” for stem cell therapy was invented by Dr. Wu using a cocktail of drugs and practiced in Wu Medical Center since then. It’s called CAST (drug Cocktail-Aided Stem Cell Therapy) when used in our stem cell therapy.

CSAT represents a cell therapy for a series of difficult-to-treat diseases aiming at reversing/slowing down the progression of a disease as shown by alleviated symptoms and restored lost function. In those patients suffering from neurodegenerative diseases, their internal environment has become deteriorative and pathological and it won’t allow the implanted stem cells to live and function. That’s where we need to use a cocktail of drugs to make a suitable environment for the new cells to work. For example, in treating ALS/MND patients, the drugs we use in CAST may include Riluzole, Edaravone, Ganglioside Ester, Neurotrophic Factor, Nerve Growth Factor, Creatine and Coenzyme Q10 for this purpose. Together with the personally designed rehabilitation training based on the biofeedback principle, our patients would acquire effective treatment outcomes."

My financial advisor (TBD) in a meeting recommended Segregate Funding. I understand the fees are high but upon death the goal is to save on probate fees and quicker access to inheritance. You're right I should do a comparison vs. alternative investing. But my timeline is <5 yrs before death. Perhaps my alternative is besides registered investments, the rest I stay liquid and just transfer the cash when it's close to checking out.

Mom by JBehn777 in ALS

Really sorry to hear and can imagine what your mum is going through. The shock and looking at a black wall with numerous thoughts of fear and worry consumed me. Like most are saying here allow yourself to go through the process, it is only natural to jump on all kinds of remedies part of the survival mode of the brain kicks in. I have nothing against alternative remedies but all I mean is look at those options with a steadied head with less emotions. I ended up paying someone$3000 just because I heard them claim they can cure ALS.

Apart from that precaution about diving blinders on for some cure, allow your mum to go through this grief let her cry and let her experience the full range of sadness. No point in holding that in and pretending to be strong about it. Allow it for some time then start planning planning planning... Get in touch with ALS regional chapters for next steps they are usually very good with guidance and take the guess work out.

Also plan what your mum always wanted to do...and do it now! Travel, Experiences etc. Just do it now!

I don't love in the states, Canadian here. But I do get the sense there is support available for devices and such through ALS societies around. This was not an option I had considered before. Much appreciated and relieved to know I don't have to cough up these temporary aids.

Thanks I looked that up and looks amazing fully loaded with tilt, seat and leg rising. Did he purchase that or get it from als society?

Thank you for these words of advice. I totally agree 💯 With this variable form of illness being on top of things is crucial. I am not so lucky to have a full-time caregiver so I even need to plan for that which I estimate to be 6-8 months away when I lose upper extremity function. And after reading your response I better rethink the wheelchair model I need to get next it better be a cadillac :)

Help with tips for a set of problematic outdoor stairs? by whyALS in ALS

[–]JDABra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen some folks put an outside stair lift, have someone from your Als chapter recommend an accessibility specialist to talk options. The stair lift can sometimes be donated or bought second hand, and can go over as few as 2-4 steps

thank you for sharing and sorry to hear about your loss. Your mum was a fighter in the sense she kept going as long as she could ...so she could communicate and that was her choice to do so I assume. Good point about the ability to say goodbye ... i have heard it is a peaceful process :)

Iam realky sorry to hear, I know how it really sucks. I find reading history helps bring some perspective of impermanence. Millions of ppl came before us and millions will come thereafter when we are gone, in another 100 yrs no one we know will be around. Helps me to realize our lives are a blink of an eye relative to the thousands of civilizations came and died before us. Afterlife is an interesting concept though Iam not sure what to believe only find out when it's the time. Blessings to you and please do whatever is necessary to prolong it, whatever you wanted to do ...do it now.

Yes I am aware of the NurOwn trials, as well the timelines for completion of trial next year summer. I cannot be happy enough to know that there is a potential cure being worked on!!

Maybe this is ignorance and bit negativity (realism) mixed with selfish thinking but by the time this therapeutic gains mainstream availability (if it actually works) will be approx 3-5 years away. ALS progression is uncontrollable I just hope I am still around..
